Towing electrics

Help, have a problem with my electrics on the back of my van, indicators and brake lights work fine, until i turn on the lights then when the indicators are on the brake light flashes and when you use the brake the light does not change, I took the cover off and when you put the lights on the indicator bulb lights up as does the brake light and the two bulbs for the number plate. We have a 13 pin single socket on a detachable swan nexk tow bar, with a splitter cable to black and grey atachments. I have checked all the plug connections and they are good. The car is 2002 and the van and electrics are about 15 years old.

Any body got any ideas??

Thanks

Robert
