Hi, a bit of advice needed !

I am thinking of buying the new swift conqueror 540 single axle. I am considering the towcar to buy & am down to the santa fe as favourite. Its kerbweight is 1718 (conqueror MTPLM is 1600)max tow weight is 2000 but max towball weight seems low at 80kg. Is this low required noseweight likely to cause a problem with towing this van even though the kerbweight of the car is well above ? bearing in mind that noseweight should be around 7% of the MTPLM or will I be able to achieve this by shifting the load inside the van ? Does anyone tow similar weights with the old shape santa fe? Help would be greatly appreciated !!

Hi ed

although slightly lighter I tow a Swift Charisma 560 with the Santa Fe. Think the MTPLM is around 1450, but have had no issues what so ever.very good on fuel, around 30 MPG when towing. Not sure of the nose weight causing an issue, I never have any problems with the van moving about on tow.

Not sure if this helps

Ed,

We are on our second "old" Santa Fe, towing a 2006 Challenger 540 (basically the same 'van as you are talking about but a lower MTPLM)and are about to swap to an '08 Challenger 560 (bed not big enough in the 540!)

Both cars have coped really well with the Challenger and a previous '04 Eccles Sapphire. We get 36-38 solo normal runs, 40+ on motorways and 26-28 towing at 60mph. This one has done nearly 20k, about 3.5k of which is towing.

Never had an issues with either car but would struggle to justify a new style one due to the opposition in the price bracket that it now sits in.

Get one - if you aren't bothered about a badge, it's a good car with loads of kit for the money, and the warranty helps too!
