Towing with M/B C240

I used an M/B C240 T reg to tow a fsirly light van to Switzerland. No problems plenty of power and very stable. Cruise control will cause heavy fuel consumption as it may use full throttle on hills. I have actually owned 3 C classes of that type (180, 250 and 240) The 250 TD was disappointing terrible turbo lag and wasn't very much more economical than petrol. All hopeless in snowy conditions.
 
I personally find cruise control makes for more efficient towing. I agree MBs (except ML class) useless in snow though studded winter tyres help enormously.
