Is this a good tow car? I'm concerned that the noseweight is only 52Kg. I'm thinking of buying an Avondale Dart 510-5L. I'm told that the noseweight of this van varies between 50Kg -75Kg. Is this correct?
 
I've heard that this is not a brilliant tow car but I'm sure someone will be along sometime to tell you more before too long.

Dusty,thanks for taking the time to reply. with hindsight I should have brought a Mondeo. New to all this & at the time had never heard of noseweight, Wasn't even sure to go ahead with caravan..Still have to make the best of what I've got now!
 
Can't comment on the noseweight, but it seems a little low for such a large car, I know the max tow is only 1300 kgs for the diesel. My previous Octavia weighed 1405kgs with a max tow of 1300Kgs and a noseweight of 60kgs. But this is based on the Gold, so understandable. That's why I went for a Mondeo TDCI, but seriously considered a Mazda 6 diesel. Both similar money but much greater flexibility regarding weights etc, if you want to upgrade van before replacing car.
 
I have spoken to someone this morning who tried towing with the 2 litre diesel Avensis. He said it was a terrible tow car, he had to change down even on the slightest incline.

in this case you must stick to manufacturers towing weight1300kgs) as it is less than the kerbweight

i certainly would not entertain this car to tow the above caravan look for a car with a kerbweiht and towing weight of 1470 kgs which (1250 is 85% of 1470).you can tow 100% of 1250kgs with the toyota but i would think it would be a very bad match
 
Using the 'ballpark' noseweight limit of 7% it will be unadviseable to tow antyhing heavier than 750kg with any of the current Avensis range. The previous model was quiet reasonable with a noseweight limit of 75kg. Caravans are not permitted in Japan so their cars are not generally not designed with towing in mind.
