Toyota Land Cruiser Safety tests

Things just get worse for Toyota as they have just anounced that LC,Prado and Rav4 will undergo safety test in light of the Lexus G460 possible roll over safety issue in the US.

Will they ever recover i remember the famous Elk test on the Mercedes A class sales were never the same again.

Hi Mikey,

The LC is used on most African Safari Tours over real rough ground, never seen one overturn yet.

Not a good year for Toyota yet imo their products are most desirable.

Maybe Toyota afre just that little bit more honest than other makers??

Cheers

The problem is not overturning due to tilting of the car over rough ground, but it occurs when travelling at speed on the level and sudden evasive action is required.

Just a thought, but never heard of the Toyota/Lexus having problems anywhere else of any particular note.

Always seem to be excellent products in fact I could lust after a Land Cruiser.

Just wondering if there's a whiff of politics creeping into the mix.

The U.S. car industry has suffered at the hands of the Japanese car industry for years now.

Do you think they've spotted a crack that they can stick a wedge in so to speak?

Tom

Fair play to toyota in each case they have, unlike Renault acknowledged that they have had these problems and taken steps to put things right.

Renault on the other hand have denied problems with the Cleo and Scienic model dispite numerouse incidents of there respective faults.

I dont think Toyota had a choice after findings were published that the Lexus was unsafe.

Dont forget the accelerator problem was known about for over year before they were forced to do something about it so i guess they are as bad as Renault.

Even now Renault wont acknowlage the problems they have with there cars, dispite all the publicity.

They choose to bury there head in the sand unlike Toyota.

I suspect that the whole thing with Toyota accelerator pedals apparently sticking only became such a big issue because it happened in the USA (and only there, nobody seems to have heared of any comparable incidents anywhere in Europe).

The Lexus issue affects a model that is not sold in Europe. It seems to be a very similar problem as Ford had a few years ago with their Explorer.

I do wonder to what extent this is "have a go at Toyota week" The press like nothing better than to find a target, harpoon it & then keep tormenting it. This weeks target is Toyota.

Given that all big 4 wheel drive vehicles have a relatively high centre of gravity then can never be as stable as a much lower vehicle unless you make them incedibly wide as well. Wideness does not help offroading other than plains & deserts.

I am afraid you can't have everything but I really do wonder if Toyotas big vehicles are much worse than others. Traditionally, for example, the big US made 4x4's had awful brakes, a much bigger danger, but this was never made an issue.

I think toyota are to be commended for trying to put things right. Unlike BMW with the wheels falling to peices fiasco. And would you beleive BMW did not even think it was a safety issue.

It makes one wonder crap BMWs are made of.
