Toyota Previa

The officially imported version only has petrol engines. Grey imported versions called Toyota Estima include many variants, eg diesel, 4wd and a choice of body widths.

Google on Toyota Estima - that should give loads of info.

We've got an 02 petrol Previa which we'll be towing with in April 07. Gross Vehicle Weight is excellent, towing weight limited to 1600Kg, kerbweights vary wildly (I weighed our Dutch import and it came out at 1740Kg without load). Nose weight is limited at 65Kg.

As an MPV it's excellent. Comfortable, flexible and reliable. The sliding doors are fantastic. It's bigger than most MPVs but doesn't feel it on the road. Running costs are reasonable. Older models are also very good based on the comments of people we've spoken to.

If you can wait until April then we'll let you know what it's like to tow with!

val and frank, have a look at the seat alhambras. they have a max box ball weight of 85 and can tow between 1400 and 1500 on the 85% safety guide with a max tow of 2000. the 1.9 tdi comes in either 110 bhp, 115 bhp or 130 bhp 6 speed i know which one i would have.

what car says it does about 48 to the gallon that a lot more than my 4.0 grand cherokee i get about 13 to the gallon around town and less towing. so i will be looking to change mine for a seat alhambra.

out of the 3 alhambra, galaxy, and the sharan you get more kit with the seat, so its more value for money and the max tow ball is more, but i dont know why.

i hope i have helped.

jo-anne.

Thanks for that Jo-Anne, our son is looking to use our van, so I thought I would enquire what other people thought about the Previa

Thanks

Val & Frank

we considered the previa before buying our ford s-max but the diesel engine had insufficient power, although the max power is similar to the 115 bhp sharan/galaxy/ alhambra it has much lower mid range power. if toyota fitted their 2.2 170hp diesel to the previa it would be worth considering. we towed a 1400kg mtlm 20' twin axle with the 110 bhp sharan, go for the 130 hp alhambra or the s-max if your budget stretches to a new car
