Hi Alan,

I have an imported Isuzu and am a fan of this type of vehicle - if you buy right you can get real value.

My tip is go for the lowest mileage best condition rather than age. There are some good Surfs out there and of course Toyota reliability is legendary

Hi Alan

I am on my second 5Door AUTO 3.0 D-4D Landcruiser and can strongly recommend the 3.0 litre TD. If possible get the D-4D Engine which came into UK about Jan 2001. Solo 30mpg - towing van 25/6mpg [it may be better with a manual]. No money spent on either vehicle apart from Servicing.

100% reliable and an absolute joy to drive over ANY distance.

HTH

Hi Alan

we have a Surf which we got in January this year imported by a local dealer we know and trust. Its the 3 litre turbo diesel - I was warned to avoid the 2.4 engine. Ours is 1994 and it had a genuine 70,000 miles on the clock and came from a Toyota dealer in Japan with ful service history, albeit in Janapese! Its in fantastic condition, unmarked and is a relaxing comfortable drive - the 3 litres just pulls and pulls and the auto box manages very well.

On a run, solo we managed 30 mpg and towing our Pageant Burgundy we get 22 mpg. They are usually very reliable and I was told that if it is serviced regularly it will go on and on (touch wood).

Have a look at the comments on the Honest John website - http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/index.php?url=/carbycar/index.htm. There's also a useful info and forum at http://www.yotasurf.co.uk/

Hope this helps

Ken

Around here the Surf and Pajero are known as Chav motors because of the type of people who tend to buy them.

If image is important, avoid.

We have had a 96 3.0TD auto Surf for 4 years brilliant tow car about 32 mpg solo about 23mpg towing, and we don't have any chav's round our way that drive bigger vehicles they all seem to own Saxo's and Corsa's
