Clive perhaps you could help me with our towing problem in relevant forum?
Hi - I will add my comments but I am no expert on towing. All I do is be cautious and treat all other drivers as potential idiots.

One thing that helps with the larger lorrys is to move out slightly in your lane as they come up behind you then as they pass GENTLY move in a bit. This helps them move away from your lane and enables you to put as much distance as possible between you and "him"

I have never had a problem with smaller vans and the like. So sorry cannot help you there.

There is a guy who contributes regularly here called Lutz who is based in Germany and would probably have some insight - he is very knowledgeable - may be especially relevent with your make of 'van.

Why don't you flag it up on the other thread with a specific question ? I am sure Lutz would respond.

My only comment would be to look at the noseweight and how the 'van rides - is it nose up or nose down. Nose down helps!!

Also what was the road surface like? We had a terrible problem once with a folding camper that became sensitive to a sparrow breaking wind. What we thought it might have been was these "furrows" that get worn in the inside lane the track of the wheels on the trailer was such that given half a chance it would start to swing from side to side as it got caught in these tracks.

Hope this helps

Ive been away for the weekend and have just been catching up with the posts in the forum. As for this one I was wondering if Daventura was going to post anything constructive and I wonder if Clive would have refused to kiss and make up with Monkey if he knew she was a female at the time , heheheh. Too late to change your mind now Clive, its just shake hands.

Don't stop me now Chris - I think I'm on a promise!!

Who am I trying to kid? I am in my 50's - fighting the flab and would not know where to start.

Incidently have you heard about the new Viagra eye drops - they are not for what you think but by heck do they make you look hard.

Hi Clubman - I always think a sign of true friendship is that you can agree to disagree. Boring if we all thought the same!

Which is what the SECRET POLICEMEN OF THE FORUM seem to require.

As for the telly - what a joke!! - I even found myself watching The Great Escape yesterday afternoon.

Reading material? - Do try the new "Out & About" magazine - excellent mix of outdoor activities including caravanning. If you are a CC member a 6 issue 6 month subscription is only

The first thing we do on arrival is put up our windbreaks so that the dogs can have a bit of freedon and secondly to isolate us from nosy people. It also helps keeping the kids away as they tend to tease the dogs.

We don't have a problems with kids that are genuinely interested and understand dogs. We don't have a problem with saying "hi" to people, but I detest people whose only motive for saying "hi" is to see what you have got so that they can tell you about their outfit, their stories and how marvellous everything is and you cannot get a word in edgeways. I would be very concerned if I was parked up next to someone with an "attitude" problem.

Hi Kanga - hope you had a good holiday

Yes I am an Anti-Anti. That is two negatives and if you know your Maths a minus times a minus equals a positive.

And that sums up my attitude to life.

Hi Monkey Thanks for that - yes I to think we would get on well if and when we meet.

Great BBQ thanks - looking forward to chilling out with a glass or two this evening now all the kids have gone - mine are 19 and 23 so its like controlled chaos when they are here - great fun but the quite bits when they are out just as nice.

Oh and don't worry about Daventura - he just like to pop up from time to time and be a bit of a pr*t. He is still annoyed at me because I called him a proctologists dream a while ago.
Laughing my ass off at proctologists dream.

my sentiments exactly, although no dogs, dislike them

I too value my privacy, why should I converse with people, I would not normally talk to. Just because I am on vacation a pleasant hello etc., but thats all.

Spot on, I too value my privacy, although no dogs, dislike them, Why should I converse with strangers, who in every day life I would not talk to. Just because I am on holiday, a courteous, hello, good morning, etc., but thats all.

Be assured I will not be drawn into any arguement on the post

ive looked at some of the comments and opinions on this topic and i cringed.for bloody christ sake we are carravanners, people who supposedly like the open outdoor life, freedom, somewhere to chill after a bl**dy hard slog at work.to be happy and welcoming towards fellow campers.we'll be getting as bad a name as gypsies before long.why do we all seem to want to hide away when we go on site, peeping behind windbreakers and drawn blinds/curtains and lets face it, and ive noticed too the amount of people who just seem to walk by without even as much as a smile never mind good morning or whatever,so comon lets getmout there and show that we ARE a bunch of very happy freindly welcoming people

Forgive me but I imagine that you are some of the people who wax lyrical about what a sociable and friendly past time caravanning is. I am all for live and let live but would it really hurt just to say "hello" or "morning"??

My point was that is gives a very unfriendly air which is a shame.

As for not looking at them - you can hardly miss the multi coloured strips of nastiness!!!!!
Monkey, It is human nature that makes us ,on occation, seek solitude, privacy, anonminity and if a windbreak helps achieve this...fantastic.Is this being unsociable? well probably no more than hiding behind a nickname to make you comments(Your nickname being your very own windbreak,perhaps)!.....Brian

Does it not all boil down to "live and let live" ?

I say Hi to all and sundry. Never had a bad responce - but you can tell those that would like a conversation and those who do not. I just reciprocate.

If we all respected each others views, and did not judge, there would be no room for those that moan.

If you look at the content of some of the more outlandish postings it pretty much boils down the the antagonistic individuals stating:-

I dont like what you tow with therefore its wrong

My vehicle is the best tow vehicle in the history of caravanning therefore you should not have what you've got you must get one like mine.

I don't like all this chat on the Forum I want to constantly discuss sinkdrainers, or various other sorts of widgets.

This is new/different therefore its bad.

When I am camping you must all be like me and if your are not I am going to tell you,

You are wrong - I am right.

etc etc

THANK GOD the majority of contributors are several emotional steps above this.

On a linked note - I do think it is intersting that whereas this banter is going back and forth - Lol has made an interesting posting re "Speed on site" that I have read but not made a comment on - nor has anybody else.

Speeding on site = danger = no interest

Dog poo/4x4's/miserable gits/windbreaks etc = an opinion = interest by the bucket load.

Now what does that say about ALL of us?
