V5 Registration Document

Hi

Can anyone say how long a new V5 takes to come ? Ive had new car now for 4 weeks and still no sign . Need it to get new plate made for caravan.

Dougie....

you can only get legal plates in person by presenting id and proof of ownership.... not by mail order, unless of course you want to send your id and v5 off to some unknown person....and god luck if you do.

It may be illegal to sell plates without proof of ownership, but that doesn't make the plates themselves illegal if they fulfil all the specified design criteria.

As long as the letter font & size & spacing is correct there is not a problem using these.

Last year two week before we were due to go away in the van, a very kind lady got out of here car at the top of a hill & forgot to put the handbrake on, & caused nearly

We are in process of changing the car and go to France in 2 weeks

You are supposed to take the registration cert with you so I am wondering how this will affect us and if there is time to get the new one through before we go

When i bought my new car, i got the dealer to provide the extra trailer plate. Saves hassle.

yes same here, when i got the new car i asked them to make up a spare numberplate for caravan, and they did it without question.

as far as i know, the law concerned on selling numberplates only applies to england and wales.....i'm sure ireland and scotland do not have that law??????

Thanks Ray

The problem is that you are told by C &CC etc that you must take the V5 with you if visiting Franceand (we go 2 weeks on Sunday) and that a copy is not sufficient

I have never been asked for it in 25 years taking the van to France but sods law etc

I have alerted the dealer and taken advantage of their free 7 day insurance so that I can use the old car this week and collect the new one when we get back from Kingsbury Water Park

They tell me that V5s are coming through quite quickly so fingers crossed
