I now have a astra 1.7CDTI(100PS)(company car) and a 2006 Bailey Ranger 510/4.

The problem I have is as I passed my driving test in 1997 so I only have class B, therfore I can only tow a caravan thats laden weight is less than the UNLADEN weight of the car.

However the only information I can find on the car is the Kerbweight.

Does anyone know where to find the Unladen wieght of the Astra?

I believe kerbweight includes driver and fuel etc..

The problem is that the law covering driving licence requirements talks about unladen mass, but to my knowledge, the law does not define exactly what is meant by that term and the V5 certificate for the car, which is also a legal document, doesn't mention unladen mass either, but refers to mass in service.

The industry, on the other hand, uses the terms kerbweight and mass in running order, so one doesn't get any help from there, either. There again, kerbweight is a UK term, covered by convention rather than an agreed standard, and was not necessarily used by foreign car manufacturers. As you say, kerbweight does not include the driver but it does include a full fuel tank.

To clarify the whole mess, the EU introduced a directive which created a new term, mass in running order. This includes 75kg for the driver and sundry items and a 90% full fuel tank. Although Britsh law has not yet been revised to reflect this term, it is generally accepted that this is now the standard.
