No, I'm not deserting my beloved Range Rover! My old mate has just bought a Signum 2.8 v6 turbo. Looks the business, but what do they tow like, accepting that it's front wheel drive?

Not the wisest of buys!

With fuel consumption of 18mpg around town and 26.6mpg combined towing is going to be a seriously expensive business.

They may look OK but Vauxhall can't give them away, depreciation is a major problem.

Emmerson,

On the other hand if it's a second hand purchase at the right point in its depreciation cycle then it could be a good buy.

Sadly for Vauxhall/GM; People don't want Luxury Vauxhalls they are looking for more prestige cars and so depreciation isn't on the car per se it's rather its on the brand.

As for the Signum well its based on a Vectra II floor plan which isn't a bad thing secondly it's built in a factory with a long association with quality output so build shouldn't be an issue. Parts are very easy to source and used across the Vauxhall brand.

As for fuel cost, well if he does under 10K a year other running costs will be higher or rather fuel cost shouldn't cause too much of an issue, of course if their previous car was a small diesel then you will notice it

The Signum is the best value second-hand car, by a long way.

One of the advantages of GM turbo'd cars is that their fuel economy is as good as their non-turbo'd relatives IF you don't use all that power. You really can have your cake and eat it!

To put the Signum into perspective, it's not just based on the Vectra floor pan, it IS a Vectra in all but name and has the same floor pan (and hence also the wheelbase) as the estate. Actually, the estate is a derivative of the Signum (which came first).
