Hello Hasbo,

I'm a little concerned with your choice of outfit. Some of the 1.9CDTi models are limited to only pulling 1300Kg. Whilst it is possible to tow the bailey, it could not be loaded fully.

Other models 1.9cdti seem to go up to 1400Kg towed weight, so you really must be careful about which model of car you choose.

I suspect the car and your caravan with 4 adults and all their luggage will be stretching the Zafira.

You may be wise to look for a slightly more capable tow car with a bit more leeway on the loading.

The 100PS version of the 1.9CDTI has a 1200kg towload limit. The 120PS version is rated at 1300kg for the manual and 1400kg for the automatic.

The 150PS has a 1500kg limit (manual and automatic).

Hi hasbo,

I have an 2008 Zafira 1.9 cdti 150ps SRI and pull an Avondale Dart 556-6 (1300KG). It pulls it easily, loads of power and sports suspension helps too.

I just took a quick look at the figures on the vin plate:

2205

3780

1-1115

2-1115

Looks like tow weight is 1575kg.

I put it on a weigh bridge last year with just me on board and it was over 1700kg (can't remember the exact figure. Heading off this Friday to West Wales so the car will be well tested again on the steep hills!!

Regards,

Andrew.

Hi hasbo,

I have an 2008 Zafira 1.9 cdti 150ps Design and also tow a Avondale Dart 556-6. The car pulls the van with no problems and thats with 2 adults and 4 children in the car, the only problem is trying to keep the nose weight of the van down at 75kg. I bought mine new and had a factory fitted detachable tow bar fitted which also incl cruise control trailer stability and hill start assist, it copes with hills on the way to Cornwall with no probs at all. The only thing is in the wet you have to be carefull not to spin the front wheels when pulling away.

Hasbo,

We used to have a Zafira 150CDTi 08 plate.

We towed a 1483 kg mtplm caravan with no problems at all, and that was with the car loaded and 3 bikes on the roof.

Remember the car is a 7 seater and the 05 onwards models are engineered with a good payload and the ability to tow 1500kg + 75 kg noseweight even when the car is full. As Andrew says the GTW is 3780kg, so you will not have an issue with a van almost 100kg lighter than the one we had at the time.

All 150 CDTi models come with standard sports suspension and ESP. My one did not have the factory towbar on it, I had the dealer fit GM towbar and had no issues with it.

The car was never short of power and a good stable tow too. As with Robin's comment, the only issue I had was getting the van down to the 75kg noseweight limit.
