help

i have a abi brooklyn 5 birth - maw 1300 - my current car is a vectra 2.0 sri. the car is struggling to cope towing this van.

i have been searching the interet to find info on a new tow car but have had no luck.

i have came up with the vectra 2.0 dti or the peugeot 406 2.0 hdi.

can any one help me if these cars are suitable or do you have any suggestions.

Hi diane, the Peugeot 406 HDI comes in two variants, 90BHP and 110BHP, I have the 90BHP which I used to tow my previous caravan (the same weight as yours) and it struggled so I had it chipped to 125BHP and it now makes an excellent tow car so if you are going for the 406 go for the 110BHP.

Be careful about buying the Vectra dti as some older models have a max tow of 1000kg

No Vectra 2.0DTI ever had a maximum towload of only 1000kg. You may be confusing it with the Zafira 2.0DTI. The lowest towload specified for a Vectra was for the estate (1200kg).

ive had both of these our peugeot was a 110bhp it was ok but being a p reg was a old and not at its best the newer ones are moch nippier

we now have a 2001 vectra 2.0dti its good we only have about 1150 to tow but its fast on the uptake it steams up hills and fuel last forever weather it would be good towing more who knows but for us its a great car

Hi Big Roy can you tell me where you had it chipped and how much it costs, only we are in the same boat it just needs alittle more grunt on the hills, having said that i never have to get any lower than 4th gear, Thanks Paul
