Vendee to Caen

Hi,

On the last weekend in August we shall be travelling back from St. Julien des Landes (in the Vendee region) to Caen. We shall be setting off early in the morning to catch the late afternoon ferry.

When planning the route, the route finder is suggesting that Nantes -Rennes- Avranches-Caen is the quickest route. I have two questions:

1. Is this the best /quickest route

2. If this is the route to take does anyone have any suggestions of a good place to stop off for lunch in maybe the Avranches area?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

That's certainly the route I have used on several occasions. I find it very straight forward although I really don't like that b****y big bridge at Nantes (too high for my liking).

Re stopping for lunch, you don't say whether you want to come off the main road or stick to a service or rest area. Personally I use one of the road side service areas, much more caravan friendly than the British equivalent. The only one on that route I might avoid is the Mont St Michel service are, nothing in particular wrong with it other than it is quite small and the time I stopped very busy.

Rob,

Thanks for the info regarding the Service/Rest areas.

We don't mind being adventurous and leaving the main road if there's a place worth stopping at for lunch (if it has a good view for example).

Thanks again,

Mathew
