Very good courier service via UPS.

We find some tv dramas and films have quite unclear audio when actors are speaking (mumbling perhaps). I then either have to turn up my hearing aids above the optimum setting which makes them tinny, or have sub titles on, or have the tv volume higher which my wife doesn’t particularly like.

So after much research on Monday around lunchtime I ordered a soundbar. At 1600 I received a message from UPS that it would be delivered today between 0945 and 1045. Looking at its tracking history it came from Eindovehen. All this with no charge for delivery. It arrived 1025, so very good service. Plus it was £140 cheaper than from Currys.

Wouldn't Bluetooth earphones been better? Mine are the same size as my normal hearing aid and sue the BT from the TV. Then no need to TV volume to be loud.

What I have found is that the volume can change from program to program even though they are on the same channel? Also between channels there can be a marked difference. Plus the fact that when adverts come on they seem to be a lot louder than the program being watched.

I’ve got a pair of wireless Bose Ultra Noise Cancelling headphones that are Bluetooth enabled. But to use them the tv settings need to be changed from its internal speakers to Bluetooth out. This does work but also shuts off sound to the room so my wife wouldn’t be able to hear the programme at all. For solo listening they are good having several modes, but still don’t extract voice audio too well from mumbling actors. The sound bar takes the tv output and now having set it up it in voice mode does improve voice clarity but not to a level that is artificial to the programme.
It also has Bluetooth output if required.

Even in programmes volume levels can vary annoyingly eg The Americas, and some of David Attenboroughs being quite variable.

My earphones fit in the ear and don't cancel the sound of the Tv, but do cancel OH asking me to do a repair. LOL! As a matter of interest which sound bar have you got as tried a sound bar previously, but too much bass distorting the speech even after selecting speech mode.

I bought the Bose Smart soundbar which is relatively new on the market. Did not buy the additional speakers as with my hearing loss (blooming diesels and GT) I really don’t need La Scala renditions. Just voices 😂

Ignore the price I got it on a special offer some £140 less plus free delivery.

We have a Bose mini that we used in the caravan, but no good using it at home. I read up on the soundbar plus as many reviews as possible, and one thing stands out is the clarity of voices. Unfortunately maximum discount I can get is 10% off the advertised price. Not sure if OH who also has hearing problems is going to agree, but there is 90 day returns window.

Up until very recently it was discounted by Bose and other outlets to £399, plus an extra 10% discount buying directly from Bose as that was my first direct purchase from them. I’d wait for Black Friday or Christmas.

I rarely buy on a whim, spend time researching products and suppliers and look for good price allied returns policy. We bought an oak AVF tv audio stand for the tv as my wife says the present black glass and chrome supports attracts too much dust. She has a point but the dog has to shake somewhere. I bought it via the Amazon AVF store and when it came its cabinet door was a different shade compared to the body. No hassle Amazon issued returns, AVF arranged collection and refund now back on my credit card. Simples.
