very lucky to keep my van

I returned home today to find a neighbours car on my drive and on enquiring why it was parked there he told me that he had disturbed 2 men who had cut the locks off my gates and where half way through cutting my wheel clamp off my van, these men apparently had been seen by many other neighbours travelling around the estate asking if people wanted theire drives tarmacing fortunately for me one of my neighbours is very keen to keep an eye on things and he had seen these 2 return to my house about an hour later on foot.

It appears that they had parked theire van on another nearby road with a a 3rd person in the driving seat and these 2 had come up to my house with the obvious intention of stealing the van, my neighbour said he had called the police but they where taking forever to arrive so he made it obvious to the 2 scumbags that they had been seen and apparently they just calmly collected theire tools and walked right past him without even trying to hide theire identity they then returned to the van which was a white ford transit with a blue flat bed on the back and drove off.

I have since spoken to others in the village who have told me that 2 days ago a large group of travellers arrived in the area and have been causing havoc in the local bars resulting in some closing theire doors and one mother said she had heard that a group of 8 to 12 year olds from this traveller group had apparently been in to the local school during lunch break and beaten some of the young children.

I have no proof that these travellers are the scum who attempted to take my van but i am drawing my own conclusions with the evidence my gate locks cut cleanly off with bolt cutters, my wheel clamp and alloy wheel damaged with oxy acytelene cutting torches and the chosen method of transport a transit flat back with ready fitted towbar, the only thing missing is the alsation.

The police are looking in to this attempted theft as they have very good descriptions of the 2 scumbags and the vehicle allthough the reg plate has been confirmed as false, in the mean time i advice any one in the manchester area and in particular east cheshire to keep there van as safe as they can and if its at home get the neighbours to be a bit more vigilant, i have been lucky that our local nosy neighbour has shown good.

I know all travellers are not the same and we have some good travelling friends on this forum who i am sure will be horified by my ordeal but i am never going to trust them in fact if the truth be known i dont think they can be called travellers i think they are thieving lying cheating scumbags who try to live off the good name of romany's and genuine modern day travellers but screw up at every hurdle.

Hope you are over the shock of these brazen scum attempting to steal your van. It's not nice and is nothing short of a personal afront. Good job you have watchful neighbours. In our little cul-de-sac we have neighbourhood watch which works very well indeed.

What bugs me with these incidents is the fact the villains, being the type of person they are, no names, seem to be above the law.

I trust the damage done doesn't cost too much to repair.

Cheers

Alan

Thank goodness for your nosey neighbour (insulting)....or should that be a member of the public standing up for Law and Order.

Too many people see and hear but do not speak......and they are the first ones to moan when they are the victims.

I defy anyone on this site to say that they have not witnessed a crime........but have they given information....even anonymously..........Mmmmmmm

I am a Police Officer and you would not believe how many crimes are solved or at least progressed by the "curtain twitching" types.

If you see it, report it.........anonymously if you want.

Find out your local police number......or

CRIMESTOPPERS.........0800 555 111

Think you owe your neighbour a bottle of the good stuff......

If it was the `travelling fraternity` I think you can forget about them being pursued by the local constabulary.

They are scared witless of them, much prefer softer targets.

Angus is right and being based at an ambulance station next to where this scum had entrenched themselves after evicting the local Romanies I witnessed it many times. Infact I myself called the police on two seperate incidents.

The first when they were breaking into the site by using sledge hammers to break down the gypsy site height barriers. The police arrived ok, got out and spoke to this scum and then drove off leaving them to break in, which they did and then intimidated the Romanies into leaving the next day.

The second incident I called them to was when I witnessed them smash a car into some works iron gates outside of our ambulance station. I called at the police station later that night after phoning them when it happened. The police had checked the car and yes, it was stolen. I told the officer dealing with the case I knew where the thieving scumbag was and could recognise him (because we had the 999 call to deal with him). "Good" said the officer and after enquiring if I was on duty the following night said he would come to the ambulance station and get a statement off of me.

That was the last I heard of the incident and some poor innocent person had lost their car as a right off and the lowlife had got off free.

Icemaker, I will put money on it that you won't hear anymore. Like Angus said they certainly wont arrest the person even if he went and owned up. Irish tinker sites are certainly no go areas to the police where I live. Sad I know but it's a fact :O(

There was another incident thats just come to mind although there were many during the two years it took to get the scum evicted.

The ambulance station shared a drive with the gypsy site and the tinkers were trying to break a horse in for trotting. They had the pony between the trap, if thats what is could be called, with a man sat on it with another at the head of the horse trying to contol it with the reins. The horse kept rearing up and they lost control. The pony and contraption, with the tinkers trying to control it, shot out onto the busy A49.

There was a squeal of brakes from both directions but the car that came closest to hitting them was a police patrol car.

I thought "yesssssssssss, what timing".

The tinkers by now were running with the horse and managed to turn left into a lane about 50 yards away.

I was expecting the police to get out of the car but no, they looked at each other, mouthed some words and then drove on their merry way into Hereford .... heh! heh!

Unbelievable but true ... sigh!

These people are scum, who happen to be travellers. being travellers isn't what makes them scum.

These scumbags seem to be able to get away with anything without anything happening to them. Its really confusing for us public.

I don't blame the police. What can they do? If they arrest them there is always some loophole these scum squirm through.

But then, if we all just keep voting Labour or Conservative then nothing will ever change.

We need a revolution. Unfortunately Travellers AND Caravanners will probably some of the first against the wall. Keep your head down....

Morning

Maybe David above, if he is a serving police officer, would like to comment on the accusations being made against the police.

Many thanks.

On a recent eviction in Grampian recently the Police had to turn up in Riot Gear mob handed to evict a bunch of travellers. I can't understand the defensive attitude that some people take when dealing with these people. They are Breaking the Law simple and it is by Their own Choice they are travellers.

I See the Italians have said enough is enough and are to fingerprint them so as to keep track.

It doesn't prove anything at the moment actually, I'm just saying the company is being investigated by the CRE.

Afternoon,Lisa.

Why are the Campaign for Rural England investigating? heh,heh

It's so the oxen don't get stolen to be used to pull heavy carts etc. Also, the birds don't like a lot of noise and shouting, stresses them out you know.

My only interest in this is that we keep getting the same bunch of travellers every couple of months. So far it has cost the Council Tax Payer

Just like to contribute, last year visitors who attend Appleby Horse Fair and camp on grass verges in their caravans were driving through our small town randomly firing an air rifle out of the front passenger window.

My son was walking home from school and was hit in the chest (he was OK, just a red sore mark), he got a good look at the person and the car (unfortunately not the number plate) and we reported it.

We were told that it would be no good driving round to the camp areas looking for him, because there are so many of them.

The police even found pellets all along the path of the route the car had taken.

My friend also got hit at the same time as she was walking the same route home from work. (Same place - in the chest). She was ok too.

What are we meant to do to stop this!

Icemaker, I'm glad that the thieving so and so's didn't manage to steal your caravan, thank goodness your neighbour intervened.

As far as this topic goes I can see it heading down the all too familiar path.

Euro might have posted in jest but I ask members to consider their words when contributing to a potentially inflammatory subject. Euro's comment is unhelpful and in a similar vein that has left him on the wrong side of the moderators in the past.
