It seems a growing trend to apply a tax on holiday destinations..I wonder all long before all places that offer vacation stays apply a tax.I wonder what places are not visited for whatever reason
It'll only be applied to areas saturated with tourists - any slight reduction in numbers would probably be welcomed. It seems a growing trend to apply a tax on holiday destinations..I wonder all long before all places that offer vacation stays apply a tax.I wonder what places are not visited for whatever reason
However we are talking about taxes in the UK and not France? Here’s the scale of charges for the Paris area A decent campsite would be €1.95 per night per person.
Very astute, but it was posted as an example of how daily visitor taxes may be charged. However we are talking about taxes in the UK and not France?
Do you have inside knowledge of these plans to escalate ten-fold - or is it just Musk-type misinformation?Reasonable charges for a tourist tax are not an issue, but in rip off Britain it starts at £1, then the following year £2 and eventually probably will be £10 a night and then they wondered why tourism is dying and business closing up.
Tourism keeps a lot of businesses afloat and makes the economy turn around for all. Remove tourism and you have a problem and taxes increase for locals.
That is a rather insulting reply or have you never come across increasingly prices.Do you have inside knowledge of these plans to escalate ten-fold - or is it just Musk-type misinformation?
As it would be a tax it’s different to other commodities and services that it’s not affected by supply chains and commercial inflation. The only method to increase it is to legislate for an increase. But councils will need to aware that setting it too high could lead to visitors staying away. Other countries have managed visitor taxes for years without any problems. So I’m sure Britain will cope. That is a rather insulting reply or have you never come across increasingly prices.
Wow that’s an underhand way of doing things. I much prefer to see a visitor tax or local purchase tax shown openly. There’s very little information
However last May Bournemouth Council started charging hotels, guest houses ABNBs a tax for every night of occupancy as part of their Council Tax payment. Thus the holiday maker may never know if they are being charged🙀
It's probably more efficent administratively to do it Bournemouth's way. The businesses just pay the higher Council Tax / Business Rates, increase their charges slightly and don't have to alter their own systemsWow that’s an underhand way of doing things. I much prefer to see a visitor tax or local purchase tax shown openly.
I thought it was only larger hotels having to pay £2 per room per night. But last thing I heard was that there was a criticism by hoteliers on how the ballot and consultation were conducted, and it was delayed. Has it now been introduced? Mind you no plans to visit Bournemouth, a veritable tourist hot spotWow that’s an underhand way of doing things. I much prefer to see a visitor tax or local purchase tax shown openly.
