Would anyone know if there would be a big difference in the costs of servicing/spare parts and reliability between the 3.0 diesel and the huge 5.0 diesel V10 please.

According to figures ive found, there is only a 3-5 mpg difference but not sure about the other costs.

The V6 is a peach of an engine with 240 bhp and 550 nm's of torque so the need for a much bigger engine is not so important unless you are pulling something very very heavy or want to get up to speed very quickly?

As for servicing costs, the Touareg requires an oil change every 10k or 1 yr whichever is sooner, the oil capacity for the V6 is 7.5 lts and the V10 is 11.5 lts so with synthetic oil you are looking at

Adrian, i have a V6 TDI and think it is fantastic!!! i tow an Elddis crusader tin axle with ease and if you are carful you will stay above 20 mph when towing, i average 29/30 on solo trips. As for servicing i can't comment as i haven't had one done yet. i am on the long life servcing which is dictated by the car computer, i currently have 8000 miles or 400 and something days to go. VW operate a service plan though to break the cost of servicing up. Go on you know you want one!!

if i am not mistaken either the V10 is a gear driven engine the V6 has a timing chain so no belts to change, what a god send!

my car is a 2007 57 reg V6 with 225bhp. All cars onwards have the 240bhp engine, just tuned abit for emission purposes.

I am TOUAREG technician. The V10 will pull anything up to a jumbo jet literaly but they eat tyres for breakfast typical milage is about 10,000 mls.I have found them very reliable outside warranty but if abused and neglected will be extremly expensive to repair, having recently costed a turbo replacment of which the turbos are
