VW GOLF PLUS for towing ??

Hi,

Seriously considering the purchase of a VW Golf Plus 1.9 TDi with a DSG gearbox.

This will be our only vehicle so will be used daily and also for towing. We hope to get a Bailey Ranger 460/4

Your thoughts appreciated

Thanks

While on holiday this year 4 weeks ago I saw a 55 plate Golf TDI pulling a large Crystal 530EB, I dont know the kerb weight of the Golf but in the caravan magazine I was reading the Crystal has a MTPLM of 1500kgs = way over 100% No way would I fancy that even after 35 years of towing vans

The weight ratio / match etc between the Golf Plus and the Bailey are fine. Working on the 85% guideline the Golf can tow up to 1358kg which the Bailey is below.

My query was as a result of reading somewhere on a forum that the VW 1.9TDi 105bhp engine (as used in VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda) was perhaps not powerful enough for the job.

Anyone have any thoughts on this ??

Thanks

Steve

Hi Robert,

Thanks for that.

I have heard that the 2.0 engine is quite a bit more powerful than the 1.9 but sadly I may not have the option, it may have to be the 1.9 hence my question.
