VW PASSAT KERBWEIGHT

Please help i am wanting to buy a new towcar, the car i have in mind is either a 140 or 170bhp passat estate, the brochure gives a kerbweight of 1510 which seems pretty low for such a big car, the caravan dealers where i bought my van say's it has a kerbweight of 1715 so now i'm a little confused.

What i need if possible is someone to have a look at their V5 to see what weight is stated on there, it would need to be 2006 onwards VW UK have been next to useless and the dealers won't have a look unless i actually want that particular car off them.

Thanks in advance for all your help as a responsible caravanner i don't want to break the law or hold up jeremy clarkson by using a wrong towcar.

I tow with a 140TDI Sport Estate. Haven`t got a clue what they say the weight is and I`m not really bothered.

What I can tell you is that is weighs between 1700 and 1730 kgs (depending what I`ve had for breakfast) on a weighbridge ( I go over it quite often.

Unless you`re towing a block of flats you`ll be o.k.

I tow 1375 with consumate ease.

I have been having the same problem myself. The weight quoted by VW on their main website appears to be the unladen weight, but checking the specs on used cars on the dealers web pages it appears to be 1715kg (estate).

The weights quoted in brochures, websites, etc. are often for the base model without any optional extras or additional equipment for certain markets. This can lead to relatively large discrepancies from the actual kerbweights. I have yet to see any car which is actually lighter than what the manufacturer has published.
