Hi I am asking a question on behalf of my brother who has a 2000 plate passat 2.8 4 motion and would like to tow a caravan could someone give me some info regarding noseweight and max tow limits etc.

First of al never trust forums for detailed technical data, we can only rely on other web sites many of which contain errors.
The proper route is to check the vehicle handbook and V5 documentation for weights. If you do not have the handbook, then contact your car dealer or the manufacture, but be sure to have the vehicles VIN plate number as they will need this to identify the specific model it refers to.
As for nose weight capacity that will be determined by the make and model of tow bar assembly you have fitted.
Having noted the warning above, my sources suggest that the saloon version has a braked towing weight limit of 1800Kg with a kerbweight of 1480Kg - no information on nose load.

Thanks very much for the replys the info given was very useful. Just posting again to see if anyone has any idea about how good the actual engine of the car is for towing eg is it powerful enough for a suitably matched caravan.

back in 2000 the 2.8 passatt was highly regarded, i would be more concerned re the fuel economy, rather than its ability to tow!
i had a 1.8t a4 quattro of the same year, that would pull 1500kg, with a 80kg nose weight limit, it did pull a 1333kg caravan, and would leave more than one solo car in its wake.
the passat i would expect would out perform that!
not absolutely sure but i recall it was voted tow car of the year?
