What tow car

I am looking to change my Nissan Terrano 2 next year.

I tow a single axle van grossing 1600kgs & looking for a vehicle that is capable of towing this weight & giving a return of at least 25+ mpg towing.

I look forwards to your sugestions.

I love Volvos.

Except for the last 2 years, I have been driving Volvos for 15 years the last being an 850 est 2.5 petrol. It pulled the van well but when being overtaken by a heavy it threw us all over the place hence the 4x4.

Towing 1600kgs, would the V70 hold my van in check as I fear a ratio of close to 1:1.

If I had the money it would be the XC90.

Bit of a tall order - 25mpg plus towing a 1600kg van!

A few on here will tell you that is possible with a variety of vehicles but I am sceptical to put it mildly, most vehicles capapble of tugging such a load only achieve high teens or low twenties with a following wind down hill.

PC Mag reckon they get 32mpg from their 2006 2.0 TDI Galaxy 140 towing up to 1640kg so that would be a good bet.

I thought the LC invincible was a ltd edt run of only 500 would these be hard to find?

We tow a 1600kg t/a Lexon640 with an s-max 2.0 tdci @92%match, passing hgvs are barely noticable and 27-28 mpg towing at 60mph, our old Sharan tdi110 was not quite as stable and lacked power, the Alhambra would also be worth a look

We tow a 1700kg MTPLM TA with a Seat Alhambra 1.9 TDI PD and have never got less than 26mpg and more normally average 28mpg when towing, this combined with very impressive solo figures have us totally converted after a Shogun TD.

It does more mpg and tows better than the Shogun although the mpg difference is narrower towing (19mpg V 28mpg) than when solo (23mpg V 50 mpg).

There again I expect most of us do more solo miles than towing.

I have a LC4 (Landcruiser) and have never got less than 30mpg solo, over a tank full of fuel. Towing 1900Kg. it does drop to 22/23mpg, which then only drops any further when the aircon is on.

I took my 2005 bog standard V70 to a weighbridge and unladen it was just a touch under 1800kg. The mtplm of my van is 1500kg but as you probably know there is loads of space in the back of the car to put things to redeuce the weight of the van.

It's rock-solid and very economical. There are some very good towcars out there. Take your time and see what ticks all of the boxes. Everyone has different tastes and needs.

I was looking for a land cruiser when I bought the Nissan.

They are raerer than hens teeth.

What is the fuel consumption like.
