Those were the days, Val, as you say. I have many stories of the past too!!! Remember to cobbled roads (and I mean main ones - no motorways).
We are in Italy now, near Venice, and complaining to ourselves about having to provide our own toilet rolls and soap - but that was the norm a few years ago. The sites in Germany and Austria (and Prague) have been luxurious by past standards.

I think it is Cart Bleu that you are thinking of - the original French credit card. Generally I think you can use Visa or Mastercard where you see the sign. You can use your card at all manned toll booths in France when towing - as Val says, the automatic ones have height barriers to prevent caravans passing (the machines are not clever enough to judge price categories and only charge for solo cars).
