After my gearbox went in France I can't speak too highly of the Mayday Service from the Caravan Club worth every penny. They got me a hire car and shipped out a replacement vehicle. My vehicle was then shipped home kept until I returned home and then delivered to my local gaarage and the replacement vehicle taken back. All in all excellent service Rememeber you only get what you pay for and I didn't think is was expensive.

Hi Terry

Over a number of years we have subscribed to the travel/breakdown package from the Caravan and Camping Club Carefree Travel service. I would recommend having a joint policy for breakdown and medical insurance as otherwise one could end up dealing with 2 different organisations if an incident involved both one's vehicle and illness/injury. This i assistance is provided through Europassist. They have proved very helpful on several occasions one in France and one in Spain.

We did find it much more difficult when we broke down in northern Spain than in France. In Spain the head gasket went on the car. It was at the beginning of a week long fiesta and it was hard to get garage service. Europassist did work very hard, however and had the 'van towed to 2 campsites and provided a hire car. Very few people spoke English but Europassist were very helpful - several times holding 3 way conversations with them translating conversations between breakdown truck driver and garage operators.

Carefree is not the cheapest but in my experience good breakdown cover is essential. I have looked at alternatives over the years but have, always ending going with Carefree. We book our ferry crossings with them too, though not the campsites. We've found the campsites can be booked more cheaply direct.

Regards

Tim
