We are looking to take our dog on holiday to france next year. we usually use the portsmouth caen crossing and have spoke to brittany ferries and the caravan club who both assure us that this is a popular route for pet carrage. We are concerned however about the length of time that our pet would be in the car alone (although we know she would be ok.)

We would be grateful for any views on this route. Our other Option would be to use the tunnel but we don't fancy the long drive south. Many thanks

Gaynor.

Hi Gaynor

There are lots of things to take into consideration

when picking a ferry crossing,we live in Southampton

so Portsmouth would be good, but we use Dover because of

the frequency of sailings ,the short time on board with our dogs,

return trip after the vets vist ,you need 24/48hrs

before you can return ,flexibility with sailing times

are a great help when booking French vets,we use a vet

in Tours so we dont have to sit in the port for 24 hrs,

check the chip before you go. rob .lyn &woofers

As we live just north of Portsmouth we go to St Malo. There are cages to put your dogs in but I don't like the idea, it's a long time to leave them. We will be going by the tunnel, going to Italy this year so not to far out of the way.
