WINTER CARAVANING IN SPAIN

We are considering doing some winter caravaning in southern Spain. We will be going by ourselves and would appriciate veiws of the best club to book/go with or whether to go direct to Spainish sites with bookings etc. Are rallies a better bet? if so which. Also best areas and main pitfalls and problems. How safe is the adventure given the reports of French/Spainish criminals targeting caravaners.

I WOULD LIKE TO ASK WAYNE WHAT REPLIES HE GOT. WE ARE TAKING OUR FIRST TRIP TO SPAIN IN FEBRUARY, AND INFORMATION ABOUT SITES OPEN IN THE WINTER IS SPARSE. CAN YOU HELP?

Ideal place to start is the CC European handbook Volume 1. Yoe will find loads of sites, and they will all(?) be open right through the winter.

We have always travelled on our own and turned up at sites on spec and we have had few problems doing this.

We are not keen ralliers but as far as i can see the C&CC seem to go into the Spanish rally scene to a far greater extent that the CC. We went to one f the C&CC rally site at La Manga and we thought it was 'orrible. The site was so huge and the vans packed in so close that it just was'nt for us. For a lot of people it is just what they want, they like being part of a big group and having organised events and evenings
