Winter storage

We are presently preparing our van for winter storage.

I was just going to pull the blinds shut but my husband says it can effect the tension and it's best to close the curtains instead.

I previously closed the curtains and found it really difficult to get the same tight pleats in the curtains when opening them again.

Is there an alternative to this or is it best to close the curtains?

Thanks

Jacqui, this question crops up quite regularly.

As for shutting the blinds, yes it will weaken the springs if left under tension for a long period of time, but they can be re tensioned.

Curtains will lose their pleats if drawn over a period of time.

One solution is to make up blackout covers for the windows out of stiff cardboard or thin plywood.

Some may suggest covering with silver foil or similar, but do not do this with the side that faces the window as it can cause excessive heat build up on the window when the sun is shining, even in winter, and damage the plastic.

Better to use a matt paint in an off white colour.
