Some useful tips in Motty's article. One other would be to use Propane gas as Butane doesn't work as temperatures drop to or below freezing. Having plenty of gas is useful even if you are on EHU as site power supplies may trip out or area power outages occur.

I have fitted Nokian Weatherproofs, a winter tyre suitable for summer and this won the tests in 2016, also having fitted Hankook RA 18 vantra tyres to the van although it states a summer tyre it has the snow flake markings for a winter tyre. .
A supply of packet soups for emergency use and we carry foil blankets in the car also some munchy bars, just for emergency in case we are stuck somewhere.
Be safe and enjoy.

Are you sure that the Hankook Vantra has Snoflake symbol? Mine were made Nov 2016 and are only marked M&S. Hankooks website describes them as summer tyres with M&S and the tread pattern is summer orientated.

Like Hutch our tow car and our run about are both fitted with all season tyres; Michelin Cross Climate. Always insist that in winter all have warm coats in the car irrespective of the length of journey.

Arrived home last night after three days in the Midlands doing the Xmas relative visits. Must say we had some interesting driving experiences but althoghh we had packed emergency stuff in the car (food, flask, cooker, blankets and shovel etc) we didn't have to use them. Although I cannot comment on how the Superb would have done on its OEM tyres it never gave any cause for concern wrt the grip from the Cross Climate + tyres when many cars around us were having problems including SUVs presumably on OEM tyres. Could have been 2 or 4 wheel drives. But as when we had to stay overnight in our Sorento on the M5 in the 2007 floods such aids to progress as high ground clearance or good grip tyres only serve to bring you up to the next hold up, or road closure more quickly.
Ah well off to Tilshead today to take caravan for its service. So will wait until after mid day when temperature may be above 1 deg c. :)

True. My previous 4x4 could go through about a 18" water depth before it reached the underside, but the police close roads when the depth gets to about 6" or less. Rarely do you happen to arrive before they put up "Road Closed" signs and I don't have the nerve to go round them. On main roads anyway, but they are less speedy to put them up on unclassifieds.

Once in snow I arrived at the back of a jam which was stuck on a hill. Cars ahead were all over the road where they had slid or tried to turn round. I turned round and found another way, but only just in time before more traffic piled in behind me, blocking that way as well.
