Winterhoff friction pads

Had mine replaced at the last service and observed what a struggle the experienced AWS engineer had to get the forward pad into place after several attempts so the hitch would close - so I agree with Mr Plodd - you need to ensure that both pads click home as per the instruction sheet supplied with the replacements.
 
I renewed my Winterhoff friction pads a couple of years ago. I had difficulty both removing the front pad and getting the new one into its correct seating. I wrote about it in my blog. See HERE and scroll down to item 26 - the last one.
