Can't pressure be put on site owners to lay on wireless broadband, as most must be on line anyway and it will only cost about £60 for the gear. What a boon it would be and bring us up to date with this FORUM whilst away.

I dare say some Dinosaur's will be against it?

I go on holiday to get away from normal life. So computer, TV, DVD, home phone etc all get forgotten. We switch a mobile on each day at 1800 - the time that our folks at home know that they can contact us if there is something that we need to know about.

Whilst internet access might be useful for banking, finding tourist attractions, planning routes, keeping in touch via e-mail etc, I can do this at an internet caf

If you think a simple access point is sufficient for wireless lan across most sites then you must go to some small sites. However, there are solutions that do not cost the earth including the BT solution that means they put wireless in and the shop sells acess for BT.

It will not be long before the whole of the UK is wireless. BT have started putting wireless access in every telephone box. So, all you need to do soon is find a site with a BT payphone and your laughing

The Caravan Club site at Ferry Meadows has wireless broadband. I am guessing that it covers all the site. The aerial's on the office.I can't remember what the charge is.

Essexeddie - the forum isn't about point scoring and trying to get people on your side - it's about being free to express opinions.

Ferry Meadows - yes, it is the way forward for those who want easy internet access on site. But for others it is - along with TVs, DVDs, satellite dishes etc - technological pollution in what can be a simple activity.

I'm not arguing for the sake of it, and I can see the benefit of broadband access for some. But not all will want it, and not wanting it doesn't make such people dinosaurs.

We were at a CL near Bury ST Edmonds in Suffolk last week end. The Pub that we visited [The Greyhound] had free wireless hookup. The landlord said he provides it for his customers as it cost's him nothing.

He reconds it brings him trade.

That's where I got the idea from.

Hi Mike P. I am not trying to score points or anything else, just chatting. Thats what the FORUM is all about, and I hope you did not take offence

Thank God I am a dinosaur. As stated previously why go on holiday to relax and then require the use of all of modern day technology. Does one need a "fix" each day or are they feeling cut off from the outside world if they cannot access the web, e-mails etc. If the world cannot survive without my input then the world is doomed. Some caravanners seem to be so kitted out it is,in my opinion, rediculous - satelite dishes, solar panels, microwaves, hoovers and now computers. Gee folk with all that added weight there is no room for clothes, food, etc.

I don't go on holiday to relax = I'm retired, and can do that whenever I want at home.

I go to visit different places, meet friends, and generally enjopy myself in the way that suits me.

Most people seem to spend hours in their van watching telly; I don't have one at home, or in the van. That's their pleasure, and as long as the volume is kept down so it doesn't imp[inge on me, that's fine.

As for technology, the van doesn't have a shower, or hot water, or electric pumps, or TV, or microwave, or central heating. So if I take a laptop and mobile phone, and would like to get on the net, does that stop anybody else from enjoying their version of life and leisure?

So let's have wireless on site, and while your watching Coronation Street, I will perhaps make some comments on here, or buy something on ebay.

Each to their own.

I would love wireless access when away, i love my laptop, i am one of the new breed of vanners that takes a sky dish on a tripod and leaves a dvd player in the van all year round, they both compliment my lcd flatscreen widescreen tv perfectly. (i have one of these tv's in the van too)

The reason i dont take my laptop away with me is because without internet access it feels kind of dead when it cant access the world.

If i could access the internet whilst away i would, very handy to check site seeing spots online, nearest shops etc..

Thumbs up for me!

It would make my hobby a lot easier having internet access.

Been tracing the family tree and with the internet it's easy to check that what you have found out is really correct.

A lot of people use their Vans for Hobbies and not just Holidays.

If you don't want internet access fine, if you don't want sky fine, if you don't want DVD or CD player fine, If you don't want flat screen fine.

So Stop looking to see what other people are doing and get on with YOUR Holiday that's fine by me.

ps I won't ask you to pay extra for me using todays technology, so please enjoy your Holiday and if my Keyboard annoys you, stop looking in my van.

First of all, well said OldFogey. I haven't got a laptop but for those who would like broadband so they can use their laptops when onsite what is the problem. I like others don't watch the T.V. but Her Ladyship does so for that I'm thankful else we would, on a dark wet September night have to just sit there staring at each other, picking our noses. Again, using a laptop hardly impinges on anyones peace, better than getting blathered and shouting ones mouth off in the awning until late at night :O)

Just an observation you will understand ;O) hehheh!

I kinda support the view of LB, in that I do not carry a TV or a laptop with me. In fact the mobile phone is often left in the glovebox of the car much to the frustration of our children when they try to call us.

I don't normally resort to sitting infront of 'her indoors' examining the content of my nasal passage, maybe that is a Hereford pastime, I cannot really say?? I do admit to a certain pleasure when in Europe as it gets dark earlier than here in Scotland, and the suggestion of 'bed time?? at 9 pm can be justified. Of course conversely one can rise at 7 am and get the early morning croisaants. I also admit to dragging my dearly beloved out of bed at 2
