Hi

Following a recent exchange of views/heated conversation with someone. I was just wondering what people think about storing their caravan near a travellers site.

Would you be worried? Personally, mine is stored a mile away from a travellers site and I don't have any issues with that.

Please consider your replies carefully. I would like to remind people that I am from tinker stock..........

Hi Lisa

We store owe caravan on a sit which is owed by travellers.

The sit it self is run by one person who lives on the sit all the time but the other traveller come and go throw the year.

For the fist culpa of weeks we had owe van there when ever we went there we would get ask by the travellers what we were do there but as they got to now use they did not bother with use and a lot of the time they come up to me to chat.

It make use thrill that the van is safe.

They all so have a cameras as well that film you when you are there and all so there is a big gat which we got a key fob for it.

Thanks for your input Mark, much appreciated. In fact, I remember you telling me about where you stored your caravan. If I lived your way, I'd consider using that storage place too.

There is a small travellers site four miles away from my house and its absolutely immaculate. They don't have enough room for storage, its just a dozen or so caravans permanently sited there.

Lisa I think your posting is unfair as you are expecting to place contributers on the spot. There are good and bad in all of us and to class a certain type of person as all bad is unfair. It would appear from your contributions that, although you admit to have come from a travelling fraternity, you have settled down and become a respected member of society. Society is its own worst enemy in classifying individuals and it is therefore unfair to place all like minded people into either good or evil.

Colin , I think you are contradicting yourself there. First you say......

"to class a certain type of person as all bad is unfair"

but then you state.....

"although you admit to have come from a travelling fraternity, you have settled down and become a respected member of society."

Which implies that those that don't settle down are not.

Just an observation

Brian I did not intend my posting to be read in that way and I hope it has not offended Lisa in any way, if so I apologise. My posting was intended to be read as for Lisa settling down and becoming an accepted member of society therefore not all travellers are classed as the same. As far as I am aware Lisa may still be living in a travelling caravan and therefore this should prove there is good and bad in all of us. I hope I have not now dug a deeper hole for myself. Those without a lawyer frame of mind will know what I mean. Brian I am now retired and the brain is not so forward thinking nowadays I have also had two whiskies and it is past midnight - give us a break mate please!!!!

Lisa,

I remember you saying that your Mother had started investigating her family history and then discovered that she had forbears who were travellers.......am I right?

We are lucky enough that we do not have to store our van but if we did I would want it in a Cassoa site with full security.A lot of insurance companies will not entertain the idea of storage on a farm site as there is not enough security and caravan theft is on the increase.

Hi Maureen yes you are correct about my mother.

I am insured with the CC and they arn't bothered where I store my caravan - its on a farm.

However, when I was insured with a another company (more expensive) they wouldn't insure it if I kept it on a farm that is why I moved to the CC.

Hi Lisa,

I had to give the CC details of our storage site etc along with the post code. Seems a little strange they don't want details ???

Hi Frank

I might have to give them a ring and check everything is ok. I used to keep my other van at home and it was insured with another company, when I wanted to move it to a farm, becasue there was less than 10 vans on there, they wouldn't continue to cover me.

So I phoned the CC and I explained that it would be on a farm etc and they said they didn't need to know anymore info, they weren't interested where I kept it. When I had my other van written off, the assessor came to the farm etc. I had to liaise through the CC to make an appointment with the assessor and the 'breaker' and there were no issues as to its location.

When I bought my current van and insured it with the CC, they didn't ask me where it is kept.

I think I might give them a ring for clarification purposes.

Lisa. p.s. Is there anything in the CC insurance booklet which refers to storage sites?

Whithout wishing to cause offence to Lisa, dare I suggest that Mark and Sharon's arrangement is a bit like the idea that the best gamekeeper is an ex - poacher :)-)

Colin - it's hard to offend a woman who is the only woman working with 60 firefighters.

I have issues with discrimination against any group , whether socio-economic, racial, cultural, religious or sexual.

If that sounds rather pedantic and arrogant so be it. Having witnessed the results of mindless bias and prejudice (albeit not as a victim) I will fight any group's corner who are tarred with a generic brush.

What I object to is any individual or group using their background (whatever it is) as an excuse for crime, bad or anti social behaviour and the do-gooders who want to blame everthing and everyone except the individuals themselves.

There are good and bad in every group and I hope I am able to judge any individual on what they are and not where they come from or what group they belong to.

As such I really don't care who is in the vicinity of my storage compound as long as it has adequate security and is acceptable by my Insurance Company.

I wouldn't say that Lisa as if you were to look at the true definition of a caravanner it can be interpretated as a traveller, therefore we can all be classed as travellers in one way or another. Incidently just booked for a week in half term holiday (end of May) for my wife, self and two grandchildren at Widend Caravan site in Paignton. Just hope the weather improves for the week.
