Its no secret that using an A frame places an enormous amount of stress on a trailed car during cornering. Damage as described is hardly surprising. I have recently changed from using an A frame to a trailer...Much preferred, especially when needing to reverse.

Its not about cost cutting. Its more to do with travelling as much as wanting to do during a day and then sleeping. it is usually difficult to find a site during the late evening

Don't think you have a problem there. I suspect that any movement is generated naturally by the syncohub inside the gearbox moving as the engine goes into overrun. Try to test drive a similar model to compare or seek advice from Fiat. I have similar model with similar movement of gear lever.
