Hi Monkey

I appreciate your comments, but you had to be there at the weekend to see first hand the state of my Galaxy, which I have only owned for 5 months, to think the damage it could have caused should the caravan have been attached and collapsed on the road, is unthinkable - also I have a daughter who could have been travelling in it when it collapsed.

My main point is that a Disco is now my vehicle of choice, I may or may not be proved wrong in my choice of vehicle in the future, and I also suppose I will, should anything go wrong, get the "I told you so" bunch of people, but I can only point out that after 5 months of owning the Galaxy, I shall never buy a Ford again. My families safety is paramount.

Each to their own, I am sure everyone on this forum has bought a "wrong 'un" over the years - and learnt from it.

O.K. I've fed my fizzog (burp!). Yes Clive, I will try to make the next one. I wont post about ⇨ (whispers) Lickhill because it offends some. Great pics from Steve from you know where but don't know who is who lolol. I too was offended about the Moddy3 job not being advertised Lol, I think it would have been a toss up between you and myself who would have made the best one. I'm sending a delegation to Haymarket and have submitted an order to be raised in the Upper House about the matter. O.K. Clive and Monkeys Hubby, carry on the debate and I mean Hubby, not Mrs Monkey, she scares the poop outta me :O(

Thank you Clive

I only hope i've not opened a can of worms, but I can't see any other way of informing people what a bag of c**p the Galaxy is!!

Hope you had a good journey home - we prayed and thanked you all silently until we got home in one piece!

I'm the one in the fur coat Lord B, Mrs Lol is the one wearing red. If you get any luck with the Moddy job, I'll split the difference with you and we can both be Moddy 2.5. Unleash the dogs of war!

Friends have the Seat version (built on the same production line I think) and they are well pleased with it Lolly. I think you were just unlucky.

That spring looked decidedly odd - very crystalline at the last break - but then having one break in several places over time is odd in itself.

As for the windbreaks - I had this vision of a female windbreak hater rushing at them and ripping them down - only to find yours truly with little on but a smile (and as you can see from Steves picture of me - that can be a hard thing!)

Thus windbreaks would be an irrelevance from that point on.

Clive

I am puzzled babe, who doesn't like windbreaks and why are you in a thong?!!!

Lolly x
Monkeys first posting was asking why windbreaks were used as she thought them unsociable - I agree but when you have dogs or children they are necessary.

Hi Lolly

It was not my intention to criticize your choice of vehicle. I was merely trying to point out a misconception that many people have that they are safer in a big 4 x 4 than a more conventional type of vehicle. The choice of vehicles in the 5th Gear programme, in my opinion, was done to emphasize the point. As far as I am concerned everyone is free to make their own choice of vehicle. What a boring place we would live in if we all had similar modes of transport.
Dusty

On the show, they admitted that the SRS system had failed on the discovery. What else had failed? was there previous accident damage to the car? was there any rust on the chassie?

The test was a complete waeste of money and just a bunch of idiots trying to look good on TV. No information on saftey can be taken from it or should be.

Just echo Dusty's point I think when ever your tried something new for the weekend you should always go away and think about It !! my intention wasn't to criticize your choice of vehicle merely to point out the old adage of "marry quickly - repent for ever" I think for me it's a question of saying if I wanted to go green laneing or trialling every weekend then a LR would be my first choice (defender) .

But if you merely buying a 4x4 because you prefer it's driving position then many other vehicles are well proven and won't cost as much to maintain or run. I speak as someone who used to run a 3,500 vehicle car fleet with an few Disco's dotted about. To be fair they've got progressively better over the years but I would touch one myself and one my colleagues was fleet manager for the Environment Agency and he had the chance to have one at a very knocked down price and he wouldn't touch one as his personal transport either.

Lolly, I guess what I'm saying is this it what I love about this forum there are those who love a particular make of car/caravan etc and there are some of us (who look like we are..be we're not) anti a particular make. You pay's your money ...Just be careful !!

Monkeys Husband
i think the adage is marry in haste repent at leisure

hi lolly,

I decided to get a disco for towing. but my budget was only 3 to 4 grand. i wanted to get the best i could with the money I had, the autotrader was mostly dubious looking trade adds. the odd private add was high on price. so I found an auction centre that only flog 4x4's ex px from fleet, and from large car sales who sell new and turn p/x's over quickly.

most people would think that all the duds go to auction, but that's a bit mis leading. I bought two weeks ago a discovery R reg 98 red GS model 2 owners full sh and 7 months mot with all old mot's, cost me
