Good for you. Luckily for you with only have hybrids so no need for you to pay the full whack for ours as I am assuming you are happy to pay for it.

Why should we pay VED and then 3p per mile on top of the duty and the VAT for a litre of fuel and we still have poorly maintained roads with pot holes etc.
I really do think that HMG would find it difficult to add pay per mile on a standard hybrid. Such cars pay fuel duties and vat, whereas EV and PHEV predominantly make use of low priced low vat electric. Any improvement in mpg for a hybrid is gained by regeneration and charging from its engine which consumes fuel on which duty and vat has been paid. I think your views are in part due to I’ll informed media speculation where most correspondents probably don’t know differences in technology or deliberately sow mid understanding. We should be more concerned with a postulated 2pence on income tax or an extension of rate thresholds. As 3p per mile would then seem like a bargain.

I would agree except that it is mentioned in the better than average newspapers. No idea if it is also in the rag newspapers as not bothered top read them?

Thinking out loud would they not be better off just adding 2 pence kWh to public chargers, no real different to petrol pumps.

I wonder what happens if you travel to France as you are hit with the French 'péage' tolls tax plus the the "Lady from accounts" tax? Hardly fair?
No different to driving the M6 Toll here in the UK - or Road Equivalent Tariff (RET) on Scottish ferries.

Here’s a mischievous headline from The Express. It’s not at all about what a readers first understanding might be, but the November bit puts it into what some might consider Budget territory.

Sometimes I think the leaks are done to make things look bad. On the actual day, it is half of what was leaked so every one goes "Whew" not realising they are still being fleeced anyway! By the way if towing a caravan you may pay double! LOL! 🤣 🤣

We already do - the extra petrol/diesel fuel used while towing has duty already paid for at the pump.

I wonder if they will impose the charge on mobility scooters as the road ones need to have tax and insurance?
