I have just bought a new caravan which is larger than my old one so I need to either buy a new awning or have the current one repaired.

Anyone know if it is possible to have an awning changed from 750cm to 900cm?

If it is do the extensions look good or would I be better selling the old one and starting again.

My old one is a nice 2005 Bradcot Active with light weight easy poles, so I'm reluctant to sell if it's possible to have it changed.

Cut the Awning roof in half and the front wall down the middle and sew in a panel the appropriate extra width. You can if you are not increasing the size to much just remove the keder (fixing beading) And cut from the beading to centre front of the roof and sew in a V shape. Straigten the line between the two top rear corners and sew the keder back on in both instances.

We have also just bought a bigger and have a bradcot classic awning that was 900cm we have just had it altered to 980 but was told by the workshop that 75cm is the maximum they could add. We only needed 65cm. phew!!! we don't want to replace either but I wouldn't recommend addding more that bradcott recommend.

You can alter Awnings more than that providing you can extend the framework ok. Would suggest that the width of the cloth used is setting the maximum at that workshop!

If you take it to an Awning manufacturer or "specialist" make sure you get a fixed quote as one guy took his to the factory it was made at and went back later that day to a

Last year we bought a new caravan which was a foot longer than the previous 'van, we too had to decide on whether to get the awning altered or buy a new one - our local caravan accessory store which also sell awnings suggested we have the awning extended, they recommended Trio Pair, we thought about this & decided to get our existing Bradcot Classic awning altered I e-mailed Trio Pair who replied immediately giving us a quote etc., & who couldn't have been more helpful & obliging, we sent the awning to them for the extension & had excellent service from them, the extension unless you knew it was there you probably wouldn't even notice!! It fits the new caravan perfectly & we can't recommend Trio Pair highly enough!!!!

hi trisha freinds of ours had this problem when they changed from a single axel to a twin last year the new van was just over a meter longer they bought a upright pole adapter from camping international which fits to the awning rail top and bottom and the awning then runs down this rail they did have to cut the awning beading that allowed it to come down the pole we measured it dozens of time before doing it. it works very well. happy vanning peter

Isn't this forum fantastic. I place a question and you guys come up with so many useful ideas and tips. Thanks

I had wondered if there would be a problem because the difference is 150cm i.e. the need for additional poles. So I've emailed the two companies suggested and Bradcot with my query. I await their responses.

Thanks everyone.

If You can Imagine a v shaped wedge in the running from centre back of roof to front. Some Awimgs can be altered fairly easily this way> The front wall of the awning stays the same and the end roof poles and wall just angle out a bit to account for the longer van. That way if the setup suits you the fram stays the same but you might lose an inch or two on the distance out from the van. If you have the vision its not hard to work out and fairly easy to do. Probably as clear as mud, but it is simple> Really!

I have seen the method that cris is describing, and to be honest it looks most perculiar when the awning is up. If you cannot go to the expense of buying a new awing I would definately have it enlarged with a inlet in the front, it will then retain it's proper shape.

I've just been speaking to Barrie at the Canvas Repair Centre who has told me that he would not recommend extending the awning (to large a leap) but an alternative would be to reduce it to make it into a large porch! I'd never thought of that. Something for me to think about.

hi trish

thought as much, its not recommended you OVERsize OR UNDERsize 2 sizes either way which is the maximum canvas repairers advise, porch awning is a better option,at least you wont have to get rid and porches are handy on weekends, just depends on what its going to cost???

Good one Klarky. We don't have a full awning, just a decent sized porch awning. This means we don't have to swap around if we change vans. Trisha, have a look at them, unless you need all that space they might only cost the same as extending your present awning.
