Aquaroll mains adapter

Just got back from a lovely long weekend in oxon park, Shrewsbury.
As we van all year round, we tend to use fully serviced pitches in the colder months. We have never had a mains water adapter, but given the fantastic washroom in the new van, I think the time has come.
So, thinking purely from the storage point of view, do I get the genuine aquaroll adapter and swap the hose for a flat hose and reel or is there a decent quality aftermarket unit that I can buy separately to go with the flat hose and reel?

Cheers me dears

We leave the aquaroll at home when using a service pitch and use a Whale water connector which connects directly to the caravan. As we usually take two Aquarolls with us this makes a large amount of extra storage space when travelling
The connector has a pressure reducer attached but I know from previous postings that not every one has the confidence to use one but I have , so far, not had any problems but to be safe I do turn the stand pipe off when the caravan is empty.

I'm not sure what is available these days, so others may prompt you on that point, but I would like to make two point.

Firstly do make sure what ever system you go for it is water council approved for potable water, and secondly you mention a flat hose. A criticism I have of them is you need to unroll the whole length before you can use it. That isn't always convenient and it might cause a trip hazard around your van.

For what it's worth, I use a 40l Aquaroll with their Genuine Aquaroll Mains Adaptor Kit - Caravan and have absolutely no problem. The hose rolls up fairly small, I keep the ball valve bit in a Tupperware container to avoid damage and shower with wild abandon without a problem. My reason for choosing this route is reading a guy post on here who used the mains connection c/w regulator and it failed and he had to spend weeks drying the van and getting new carpets. With my luck I would be the next victim!

I just don't trust to permanently hook up to the mains rather go through the aqua roll.

As one who is today removing kitchen and breakfast room units and vinyl flooring as a precursor to a major excavation tomorrow to source a leak in the slab, I’d stick with the aqua roll option every time. If it goes wrong you only flood the field. Plus if the service pitch supply should have a problem you can always roll your aqua roll to a working tap.

Thanks all, definitely will retain the aquaroll and use the adaptor.
So, for those of you who retain the service of the aquaroll, do you leave the adapter fitted or remove it when towing etc?

Sorry Kevin I’m not clear on your question. Can you rephrase it.

I can try, if I use the aquaroll adapter and hose, do I need to remove the adapter every time I decamp or are they robust enough to leave in place during travel.

I tend to remove our adaptor, and store it with the flat hose reel, as we never know if the next pitch will be serviced or not, and I would probably take the wrong Aqua roll if I left it in place. Also our flat roll hose is longer and lighter than the Aqua roll hose.

I’m thinking a 10mtr flat hose will suffice?
A decent Tupperware type container will keep it safe for the times don’t do serviced pitches (typically when we are away for a week or more).

Thanks your all your views and advice.

For what it's worth, our experience of connecting to fully serviced pitches in France is varied; sometimes we have pitched up right alongside the tap on the pitch, other times I end up rigging up a rather complicated (and often long - up to 25m) set-up. I also find that it's often the grey-water disposal that causes the most head-scratching. Bizarrely, often the drain seems to be the same height or higher than our drain point on the caravan. I'm quite proud of some of my creations to get the grey water flowing away so I'm not standing in a 2cm puddle at the bottom of the shower :( I wonder if it's something to do with the slow run-off of the water, and the fact our caravans are the 'wrong' way round on continental pitches (am not sure if / why that should make a difference?). I did ask in our local caravan dealership last week if there's anything on the market to help with this - 'no' was the answer.

The mains adapter kit can be purchased with its own storage bag. I have tried both systems and only now use the indirect adaptor via the aqua roll.
And yes always remove the adapter from the aqua roll when travelling. It takes less than 10 seconds to remove. It could get damaged in transit if attached.

I would also go for the aqua roll adapter, i have used the direct connection until my neighbour had a pipe pop off in his van and flooded it.

Apart from the distrust that some people have about the direct line and pressure reducer, which statically are very reliable, - but that statistic means nothing if you are one of the few where teh regulator has failed and blown the caravan pipe work apart, There are two other aspects of using them which can be problematic.

The second is the restricted flow rate they can exhibit; Some people report the pressure is fine, but it can't deliver enough water for a shower, compared to a pump.

The third is also flow related, but this time it how effective the caravan sites pipework system is at meeting the demand for water - there may be times when the the furthest pitches are starved of water pressure or flow becasue of high demand.

All three issues are answered very well by using a water barrel and pump as a local reservoir for your caravan.

My adaptor has a fairly delicate float mechanism so I do take it out, it just unscrews like a aquaroll cap.
I use it because I had the mains reducer supplied with the van leak over pressure the water pipes, one of which blew off.

I would put a few holes in a Tupperware type container. If it's air tight and you put a damp adapter in it for any length of time it could go mouldy.

I have always used the ball **** type in the Aquaroll but tried many hoses, standard food hose, flat hose, coiled hose etc etc
Storage is the main problem with kinking a close second

Recently bought one of these & so far very happy with it!
https://www.leisureshopdirect.com/water/caravan-plumbing/water-hose-and-fittings/brunner-hose-reel-with-new-flat-hose

You don’t have to fully unwind it to use, doesn’t kink, rolls up & stores nice & neat, lightweight
