Ardeche, Les Ranchisses

We are off to the Ardeche soon. Has anyone any "must do" tips for the region.

Staying at Les Ranchisses. Has anyone any comments on the sites and/or comments on Largentiere. Paricularly grateful for any places to eat.

The campsite restaurant is a must for somewhere to eat - the locals eat there so it must be good. There are also several good restaurants in and around L'Largentiere itself, and don't forget to buy your local produce from the market (forgotten what day). We've stayed there three times now. The site is lovely, and the pools great for a very early morning swim - so peaceful. The washblocks are clean (and kept immaculate). If it's your first time in the Ardeche, then see the great river itself, the gorge, the Pont D'Arc, do the canoe trip, etc; and don't miss La Beaume, and have a coffee down by the river. Visit the hilltop hamlet of Sampzon and check out the views, go to the Chateau at Montreal, if it's the right time of year see the Organ festival at Chassiers, nearby. Ride into the wild Ardeche mountains - and look for Nippi and Nigel's place which was nearby!!!!

what are the pitches like at les ranchisses are they marked out by hedges or open , we have a large twin wheel it also says that you can have some road noise any comments would be grateful as we are thinking of booking next year aug we have 3 children 14 12 4 .

We stayed at this sit in 2003.

I concur with the other post about it. A really nice site, with an excellent on-site restaurant (best we've experienced on many French sites visited).

There could be some road nice on some pitches, but ask if you can pitch near the pool and you will be fine.

The pitches were not marked by hedges when we were there, but are of a good size.

The kids will love it there, it has good evening entertainment, and I recall some of the most spectacular thunderstorms ever on our visit. Hope it stays sunny for you.

Lots of eateries in L'Argentiere, and some very good vineyards nearby also.
