Battery not charging

I have a lunar quasar 462 2008. The battery charger has stopped working. Can I connect an intelligent charger plugged into the mains socket on the van and connect it to the battery so bypassing the faulty charger?

Yes - that's exactly what I did with our previous caravan - although on that I was able to switch the onboard power supply off.

Some onboard power supplies, also known as onboard chargers, have a switch to enable them to be switched off - but many don't have such a switch - in our case it wasn't broken but a smart charger looked after the battery better.
