We thought it quite funny in the end but it had as much to do with real caravanning as East Enders does to real life. It wasn't to be taken seriously.🙂

but trying to be fair to the producers, it was an almost impossible task, trying to portray such a varied hobby for the general viewing public on mainstream television, tis one of the reasons most programs of this sort are made for some obscure satellite channel.

caravans are popular but not well liked and any sort of competition element turns it into a pi$$ing contest, either by who's got the most money, or who can be the biggest pr@t. in the end it turned out to be a bit of both,

in the end it was a case of nice try but no cigar, it should be possible to make good entertaining caravan programs without being either a showcase for the industry or portraying caravan users as some sort of Morris Dancing oddball show off's, question is who would watch them, and there is the dilemma.

The idea was sound but for God's sake us caravanners are real run of the mill people not weirdos from another planet,
Could have done a lot better B)
 
We are sitting on a cl site az i type this , arrived yesterday in sleet and hail , backed onto plot and just got unit straight , front 2 tyres buried in the grass/mud , didnt manage to get van on the leveling ramp , awning up , glad the fish and chip van came round ! Unhooked the van just to spin and rock the car so i could get car from grass ! Both a right mess !! They didnt show those kinda scenes on the show !!!

This was not entertainment, it has knocked the hobby back ten possibly twenty years, I have spoken to other vanners and they are the same as me embarassed to say I enjoy being a member of the industry. I have to say I hang my head in shame at this excuse for entertainment. Done more harm than good.
 
I watched the "final" and loved it. Didn't think the people were "pathetic" (do we really need to stoop to name calling on this forum) or that they "made fools of themselves". They had a go, they had a laugh, they had fun, they comforted their partners when they made mistakes. They were all lovely. I'd be happy to be on a caravan field with them.

I don't bother watching much tv but this show was one I looked forward to. So from my view and many others except elitist caravanners the show was entertaining fun.

sorry Mel have to disagree, either the producers have to define a program as a serious attempt at mounting a competition, like Masterchef, or Bake off, even if they have to lighten it up a bit like Shed of the year, or just go for the slapstick look how stupid people can be, like touch this or Ninja warrior, it cannot preport to one whilst being the other, it is as bad as saying Open all hours is a documentary about the life of a corner shop owner. 😗
a while back a production company posted on here about wanting people to appear on a show about caravanners hope this wasn't it or something like it, someone said earlier it has put caravanning back 20 years in the eyes of the general public, sounds about right.
if the jollies like this are for real, and will turn up on the next pitch, thank you know I have done with it.
 
Hardly class myself as elitist. I drink beer, lounge in the sun and barbie up on a daily basis, wearing shorts and Felipe Fallops. But Im with all the others who felt insulted at a show that was devised to make us look ridiculous, ably supported by the one man who should be promoting us as normal people, not Nuts in May types.

If you call that garbage entertainment its a shame they did away with hangings, you would have loved that. As it was, they just lynched any semblance of normality the non-caravanning public would have believed.

The only entertaining bit was when the club chairman or whatever he was supposed to be ripped the back of his caravan and then had the sheer cheek to stand there and criticise the ex-artic driver, the only man there with any skill whatsoever. :angry:

They seemed normal enough to me, Sausage was eccentric but others normal couples. The director will try to accentuate some traits for entertainment value. The show MUST be entertaining or he would be out of a job.

The show was not about a normal circumstance. It had exaggerated tasks.

Entertaining in only the shock value. I was horrified by it. The chairman obviously showed his inexperience at dealing with out of the ordinary situations.
 
I agree with Mel, the finalists were nice likeable people who did their best.
I have to say that if the guy who didn't make the final but who invited himself along as a self appointed reserve contestant cornered me with his photo albums I'd make an excuse to disappear :woohoo:
 
Watched 1st. episode last night, (probably shan't get round to watching part 2!) they were certainly not representative of most CC members I have met and been with over the last 40 years. If they were the 'best' caravanners to represent caravanning today then god help the rest of us.. Did meet and dine with Grenville Chamberlain when he was vice chairman, a few years ago, ( - Name dropping? - I was Lincs Centre Rally Sec. at the time) certainly don't remember him as he came over as in that show! - Or is it just me that's becoming more intolerant as the years add up?
