is it worth taking the service plan i got offered with the wifes recent car?

It can be, but read the small print, some of them you would be better off using them to light a fire with.

If fit does cover what you need then it’s probably worth doing, it cost by son over £4k to have a new clutch and dual mass fly wheel fitted this year, he bought the car just over a year ago second hand!

A service plan wouldnt have covered that as its not something that woukd ever be done during a service. It would however have been covered under any warranty that was in place.
