A service plan wouldnt have covered that as its not something that woukd ever be done during a service. It would however have been covered under any warranty that was in place.It can be, but read the small print, some of them you would be better off using them to light a fire with.
If fit does cover what you need then it’s probably worth doing, it cost by son over £4k to have a new clutch and dual mass fly wheel fitted this year, he bought the car just over a year ago second hand!

I took out a two year service plan last August when I had the car serviced by Toyota. It cost around 5% more than the then quoted prices but that’s it fixed for two years. I pay monthly by direct debit. It did not include complementary recovery as I had not bought the car from a Toyota dealership.is it worth taking the service plan i got offered with the wifes recent car?
Service plans account for your mileage as they click in when the car has done the specified mileage or reached its due service date. So if you do your 10k in six months in it goes for its service, assuming that is its scheduled mileage service interval.It will do about 10k a year and yes planning on keeping it, Suzuki S-Cross.

borderbilly is asking for service plan not warrantyI did some work for one of the large insurance companies some years ago, they underwrote many of the extended warranty packages from TV’s to cars, the profit margin was huge. That told me all everything, ie that by never taking out extended warranties on anything, the chances are that I will be better off.
Of course there will be the minority who will have a claim with a value that exceeds the premiums. I think the question is; could you afford the repair bill if the worse happens? Then look at the odds, a single large bill say every 5 years may well be an acceptable risk
There aren’t that many high interest accounts around, plus if you have the car serviced at a franchise dealer irrespective of its prior service history you can get a 12 month warranty. In the case of Toyota this goes to 10 years or 100k miles so in real terms it’s 11 years less one day, or 1 mile under 110k miles.The chances are that under present day conditions, the cost of having a service will increase over the period of the service plan, so fixing it for a number of years may be a financial win. But equally if you are tied to a main dealer, the prices of the plan are likely higher than than you might be able to find at an independant service depot, in which case the plan may cost you more.
But would you be better putting a sum away in a high interest account and pay for your services from that pot.

If we are actually discussing service, here is my 2 Penn'orth; I own several vehicles, the oldest a Morris 8 made in 1937, through to a Mercedes GLE that I bought new in 2022. A dealer plan for a pre war Morris 8 would cost a fortune these days, simply because every 300 miles something requires oiling, greasing or checking. The GLE costs a fortune to service because Mercedes charge a fortune! Whilst the pre war Morris genuinely requires frequent attention, the GLE frankly doesn't, a huge proportion of the service time is "checks" on things that in 99% of the time wont require any attention, charged at huge Mercedes hourly rates!
My 20 year experience of Mercedes servicing has frankly been disappointing, I relish the time that the car is out of warranty and I can use my local garage to do the servicing. Does not having the car affect residual value, possibly, but its minimal and for me no as the Merc dealer is not going to compromise a sale on the basis that the trade in is not 100% merc serviced .
I will change my car next year and having looked at the warranty terms I think I'm fine having it independently serviced from year 1 as long as it to merc spec.
Unless the service plan cost is fantastic, save your money ! or if buying from a dealer haggle ( right at the end of the negotiation) that a service plan is included, it costs dealers very little to service a vehicle, so chucking a plan in to secure a deal is an easy give to secure the sale.
