Caravan cover

Caravan covers for the winter period.

Can they damage the van by rubbing in windy conditions.

Should you use one or not?

Could I Have some points of view?

Many Thanks Steve

Hi Stephen,

We had a Specialised Accesories cover for our last van, a Bailey Ranger 470/4. I've no doubt that it did protect the van but it was a faff to put the cover on. A person is needed on either side of the van with a pole to pull the cover over. The company recommended putting a tennis ball onto the end of a brush handle to avoid ripping the material.

There were also foam buffers to insert into the awning channel that kept the cover away from sharp corners/ends and they advised covering all of the windows to avoid scratching.

With our new Pageant, I have bought a Fiamma Cover Top that 'does what it says on the tin' and it only cost

Stephen, we keep our caravan in a compound 12 miles away from home.

We don't use a cover for 4 reasons:

1. When we go out in our van we have nowhere to store the cover other than in the van or car.

2. When we return from our trip the van is very often dirty and we wouldn't want to put a cover on a dirty van.

3. We have seen other caravans in the compound with covers on that a moving around in the wind, and worry about what damage the cover is doing to the paintwork.

4. We use our van every weekend from March to november and after that every other weekend, so to keep lugging a cover on and off would be a right pain.
