Just read about the name changes made to some of the CC sites.
Apparently some CC Members couldn't identify where Grin Low is so it's now become Buxton. Does this mean the Ancient Grin Low wood will in future be known as Buxton wood.

I can see the sense in some of the changes but must question the real reason?
Years ago the County of Shropshire was changed to Salop and thank goodness changed back to Shropshire.

They now seem to be named after the nearest town - rather than nearest locality.
Afaik, Salop has always been the abbreviated form of Shropshire - just like Oxon is the abbreviated form of Oxfordshire.

Lord Braykewynde said:
Salop was also the name for Shrewsbury among train crews in the 60s and no doubt a lot of years before that.
Incorrectly applied to Shrewsbury - but no surprise there.
Salop is the abbreviation for the County of Shropshire - from the Middle English "Salopescira"

Rob T, Buxton is 13 miles east of Macclesfield in the peak district or 13 miles north of Leek, stunning part of the country, ask Dusty Dog he loves the place. We live 13 miles west of Buxton in Village called Bollington and use Grin Low and Blackshaw Moore regular, infact we are due at Blackshaw Moore site Leek first weekend in December and then Boxingday until it closes on the 2cnd of Jan.GrinLow closed Mid November a shame really has the scenary is stunning in the winter.

It all seems about as original as some people naming their houses after the road they live on. Neighbours here calling themselves 'Mill View House' !! lets face it the book is split into counties so how gard can it be??? Still cheaper to spent our money on a few new signs than to say buy a fleet of motorhomes for entertainment purposes!!
