Del,

On some makes of car, the reason you fill half through the Oil Filter Housing, is so that you prime the Oil Pump, but as I've said this is only for certain makes.

best regards, Martin
I was informed on a jeep forum to prime the oil by filling 50% via the filter housing and then leave for 15, so have always follwed this advice.

hello,

although what has been stated on this thread may be interesting to those who are unsure,i would expect no particular brand of oil to be any better than any other.at the end of the day, oils are all graded to the same standard.putting engine failures down to oil choice is shallow.as is choosing synthetic oil, over mineral, but failing to adere to the reasons for choosing synthetic,ie-extended oil drains.

Could I just draw the attention of some here to a point legal point.

I'm guessing that most of these people who think that the Chrysler's looks like Bentley's are also drivers.

The legal requirement is re your eyesite, you should have regular eye tests to check for sight problems and other problems and eye diseases such as premature cataracts. As drivers it is importenet to have good eyesite.

For those that think that a 300c looks like anything in Bentley's range, there must be an optician nearby.

Good eyesite is vey precious and some think that glasses make the wearer look more intelligent. That must be an added bonus for those mistaking Chryslers for Bentleys!

Can you buy shares in D&A or S'savers I wonder.

Clockwork, if the word that you think spells 'important' looks to you like it is correct, I suggest you be the first in the opticians queue!

My touch typing is not as good as it was thirty years ago, and I have a life so reading back is not always an option.

But I can spell suoicodalaipxecitsilgarfalacrepus in reverse with my eyes closed when typing.

Try it!

There is a difference is the makes of oil.

Audi use Castrol Longfife which is a very hard oil (i dont know how you can tell?)to extend service intervals. This was developed to Audi specs.

Was told best thing was to drain it out and replace with std synthetic oil.

Well I still like it anyway - I bet it would tow almost as good as my Shogun.

Oh and I agree with whoever said Mobile One is the best oil too!

Also reading of the failure of Merc diesel engines, did you know that Mercedes bought 81,000 diesel units from Fiat last year? Are you sure your Merc has a Merc engine????

Hi Glenn

I'm sorry but you are seriously out of date with your assumptions about Bentleys and VW. The VW Phaeton and the Bentley Continental IS the same car under the skin. All of the controls are identical, glass, some panels, etc, etc. Nobody said is was a re-badged Bentley. As far as my internet research shows the Bentley Continental is actually a rebadged Phaeton.

Do your research before you blurt out wild opinions. Try gggling the words 'PHAETON CONTINENTAL DRESDEN' and look at some of the links. Here is an excerpt from one Wiki'.

'The D1 is a stand-alone platform, and was specifically developed for the Phaeton and Bentley under code name VW611. It is commonly confused with Audi's D3 platform, which is aluminium-based instead of the D1's steel platform.'.

I think there are some cars produced in Crewe. I think the Continental Coupe is assembled there from parts shipped over from Germany.

Don't forget the days of Rolls Royce (owned by BMW) and Bentley (VW) being assembled together at Crewe are long gone.

You also say that the Phaeton is not as good as a 7-series, jaguar xj, Audi A8 or s-class. Well I must bow to your most esteemed motoring experience and I wish I were so lucky to have had experience of all of these. All I can say is that if they are all as good as my Phaeton then they must be amazing cars.

This is a hand assembled car that has astonishing levels of engineering.

Go on to Youtube and enter 'phaeton clarkson'. Watch the review. You will hopefully find it both entertaining and enlightening.

I do have to concede one small point to you. It does look at first glance like a big passat.

I keep finding more and more small things that I didn't realise it did. The latest one was when slowing down and indicating say to turn left it switches on extra lights or turns headlights to the left to illuminate the area to the left. Another toy.

Calm down Ian,

The phaeton was developed before the Bentley, & is seen as the development mule for that car - donating gearboxes, suspension & other major components.

A few early Bentley GT's were made in the Dresden factory before production was moved back to Crewe.

What you have bought though is a high end premium car at a premium price but without the premium badge that goes with it. What that means is that you will have to virtually give it away in a few years time because the market will not pay big money for an old VW.

I also don't see that sharing parts with a Bentley is an advantage because you will pay Bentley prices for spares. E.g. if a shock absorber goes you may have to replace all 4 at around

oh yes, 'Calm Down'. Funny one.

I don't think it matters who donated what. Its all the same company. I accept your comments are correct about Crewe production. I am out of date on that.

As you say, I have bought a high end premium car BUT I haven't paid a premium price. That was my point. At nearly half price, or at least

I don't have one, but would love one! As for beauty, I think they are the most most attractive new vehicle on the road at the moment. If you are my age, you might remember the last big Rover 3 litre coupe....the Chrysler always makes me think that if anyone had done an estate version of the Rover, then it would just look that way.

To me , they actually look like a car should look.

Thanks for your comments If you know the dealers name please forward

Adrian

Sorry don't know the dealer the guy was doing an asbestos survey at a school where I work.

Had to walk him back to his car and that's when we had the conversation about the prices on big cars (me having a Sedona)he saying he'd had a look at them but guess what I payed for 'that then'.

Convinced that he was sincere and not winding me up, as it was about February when the dealers were grinding their teeth.

As we're in the Stoke-on-Trent area I wouldn't think he had many dealers to buy from.

Also at the moment I read Chrysler are dumping dealers because of the trouble they're in.

Might be worth phoning around.

Best of luck they're a really smart car.

Reading through all these posts makes me realise that this car polarises opinions like no other. You either love it or hate it. There's nothing in between. (I've already given my vote for the hate brigade).
