Hi folks

Can anyone advise as to best way to clean these things - is it the same as for Alko pads? Mine has developed slight "sqeak". I used to clean Alko pads with 200 grade wet/dry paper and/or white spirit.

Advice please.

Any light (volatile) petroleum hydrocarbon solvent is fine to dissolve and remove grease from the surface of the tow ball and friction pads.

White spirit is a pure petroleum hydrocarbon and is certainly OK, as of course is brake cleaner - which is often a 50:50 mix of petroleum solvent and alcohol or acetone.

There is no need to keep sanding the tow ball - unless it is very rusty - a Scotchbrite pad (green plastic kitchen scourer) works really well followed by a clean cotton cloth.
