Cooker door.

I've had two caravans over 31 years and towed well over 120,000 miles with them.
Both caravans had cookers with glass doors and the latest is 14 years old.
Opened up the caravan yesterday after a long tow to find the cooker door detached on the floor and the glass shattered into a thousand pieces!
I know this has happened before to others and that it can occur out of the blue for no obvious reason..... twas dammed annoying !!!
Going to be a DIY repair probably with some brushed aluminium sheet so it can't shatter again.
The inner clear glass heat shield is still intact.
Replacement glass from Thetford is circa £120.

Happened to us, got stuck on the Paris Periphery road just before rush hour, swinging in and out of traffic, got to Gandspatte only to find the dinning table had escaped from it's holder and smashed through the oven door. The Dutch folk near us must have thought Mrs H was very caravan proud as she got out the vacuum cleaner.
Cost at that time was £60 for a complete door. About 15 years ago.

We had the door fly off our cooker on one of our trips, fortunately no damage to the door or the rest of the caravan - it was a PITA to fit back on though.

When we had our previous caravan I think the cooker door came off my wife pick the glass up but I think our caravan engineer sorted out for us .

I‘d ask whether a glazier can‘t have one made up for you. Mind you, it would have to be toughened glass so it has to be heat treated after cutting to the correct size. It’ll take a few days to get it from a specialist glass manufacturer, but it should be a lot less than the £120 quoted by Thetford.

Quartz is pure glass without any additives. It has a higher melting point than conventional glass and is therefore suitable for refractory applications, but as we are talking here about the outer glass panel that never gets so hot, tempered (or toughened) glass is a safer choice.

Thanks for the replies.
The hinges just slot into place on these doors just held there by spring tension. Nothing on the hinge mechanism broke the door just detached and smashed the tensioned glass.
Now I see what can happen no way am I replacing the glass.
The Thetford refrigerator in my caravan has a brushed aluminium door so I am going to fit a brushed aluminium sheet cut to size circa £20.
The inner heat shield glass is still intact.

I have the glass hob lid of the cooker strapped in place for towing as I know they can detach and smash.....didn't win as the door got me!

.......fitted brushed plate to oven door as a DIY replacement for the shattered glass.
Upper grill shows original oven door design ..... a glass door with outer brushed metal strips.
Costs were £37

Always someone to rain on the parade! Im sure hes thought that through.
It’s only something that is a possibility to me, I wasn’t knocking what he has done, but not knowing if kids/grandkids/disabled etc etc could be in contact with the door I thought I would say 🤷‍♂️
