My wife and I are booked and have paid for a 14 day break on a site in Cornwall in 5 weeks time. The caravan sites website states "business is as usual". Now with the government closing all pubs, clubs and venues where we could eat, drink, socialise, visit etc etc, does the site have any obligation to cancel and refund payments as they can no longer offer the usual experience? As we were holidaying in the UK and not abroad we do not have holiday insurance and if we did we could not claim unless they close. Thoughts!

I can’t think why access to pubs, cafes and restaurants is part of the sites offering. Five weeks is a long time under the dynamics of this situation. I would contact the site and see if they will credit your booking to a later date. It may be that bookings drop off will cause them to close the site anyway.
My daughter had a performance of Queen cancelled as well as my wife seeing Les MIS. No refunds offered but credit for future performances. Sensibly if the theatres offered refunds then in 2021 we would have no theatres to visit.

Hi Otherclive
when I say pub s, clubs, we are not alcoholics😊 its really all the venues, the villages and sites that we would normally visit. If they are closed down why would people travel all the way to Cornwall if you can't get a tea, scone or pastor when you get there.😁

The current advice is that all pubs, clubs, etc are to close tonight until further notice.

The C&C Club have issued a notice (look at the topic What Crisis) which details that whist open at the moment , they are working at 50% of site numbers and ALL facilities are closed.

I assume, but that is just an assumption, that if the site stays open then they are still offering you a pitch, which is what you have paid for.
Anything else is subject to availability, and I expect that all communal facilities will be closed down.

I've got to be honest I'm glad I never booked to go down to Weymouth in June and the site saying we are still open for business, but I accept the government need to get on top of this corona virus, all I want to do is get my Kuga on the caravan to see how it goes, so I think it will be a run up the A46 to Newark and back,

Medical facilities in my old home of Cornwall are pretty sparse. There is one acute hospital at Truro (25 miles from Penzance), and a lot of treatment is carried out at Plymouth (78 miles), Exeter (100 miles) or Bristol (188 miles). In comparison I have a major hospital here in Colchester, another 18 miles away in Ipswich, one in Chelmsford (20 miles) one in Basildon (30miles) and Southend (35 miles). There is also a large elderly population, hence the Council asking you to stay away.

The good thing about an oggy (pasty for the English) is it's the ultimate take-away, and those places are still open, we're even exporting them to England, so you can have your pasty, buy scones and proper cream from a supermarket without adding to the load down there!

The Spring Woosiefest is cancelled. No refunds per the sites T&Cs. But as a goodwill gesture they have allowed us to transfer to a later holiday in October to February. Most of us had paid the full amount up front as part of the contractual terms. We were offered a cancellation insurance eat £2.00 a night but chose not to accept. Thus we are very lucky to have been offered a transfer.

Always remember being in a pub in Truro one lunch time and a local came in but could not sit in his usual seat because of the English down in Cornwall on holiday but it did not surprise me because I saw plenty of the Cornish language about the county scrawled on walls and roads I could not read itbut I suppose it said something like Sod off back to where you have come from, plus it rained solid for ten days,

A shame some Cornish people take that view.😥 Tourism is their largest local income generator. Why cut off the hand that feeds you🤔

But you wrote earlier that the grafitti was written in the Cornish language and you couldn't understand it.
How do you know that it was about you?

Because English was written in English in fact I asked the site wardens what it was all about, it was the affiliated site between Truro and Falmouth and it was painted on the traffic island, very straight forward Parky there are people out there who are not very pleasant about the English when I was lorry driving I was racially abused several times because I was English it does happen, did you ever come across being racially abused in your lorry driving days or did you just run round the west midlands,

I drove artics all over the country Camel, but I never got the hump about what one loony with a paintbrush from the population of an entire area had scrawled on a traffic island or wherever.

I could take a certain degree of satisfaction in being called a” English whatever”. I used to go away some weekends walking in Wales with my boss. In the rear if his estate was sign “I wake up each morning thanking God I was born an Englishman”.

I do wonder if the site is wanting you to cancel rather than them. Quite simply if you cancel you have no rights to any money back and they probably are going to need it more than you. If they end up cancelling then they have to refund you.
Not knowing the site I do not know what facilities they have. I take it there will be a toilet block, but it may be closed, but there may be a bar, swimming pool and so on.
If all or most are closed, then even a disclaimer that not all facilities can be guaranteed should not save them, as there is then a major loss of the advertised facilities, resulting in them being unable to fulfill the contract and you should be entitled to your money back, but getting the sums involved may be another matter.
In the first instance though you should ring them, find out what they are prepared to do and see what happens.

Yes it’s no different to door handles, grab rails on buses etc. I find gently rinsing your hands with the last few millilitres will clean them nicely. It also saves using the antibacterial wipes kept in the car.;)
