With neigh on 100000 staff vacancies its been a problem for some years, and since the 1960s we had been reliant overseas staff joining the NHS. Our daughter's mental health teams have lost experienced staff who then work for agencies and earn more for less hours. A lady opposite us who works in radiology has done the same, and now only works half the hours that she did when full time, plus she has flexibility. There cannot be a quick fix, it has been endemic for too long, and the idea to reverse the NI surcharge, which was to provide extra NHS, Care funding seems plainly nonsensical.

I caught mine a short while back from my wife. She had just flown back from Greece on the Wednesday with no symptoms. On the Saturday she felt a bit out of sorts but Sunday full on symptoms and positive LFT. Mine came on the next day. So it was the classic 3-4 day infective period before symptoms show. And neither of us tested negative for 10 days after symptoms appeared.
We have five boxes and the earliest expiry date is mid January 2024.... time for two or three more waves and lockdowns 😱.
The reason we have so many is that we ordered for our daughter who despite working in the NHS could not access any for a while, but she's now able to get her own from her department. She tests daily as her work is community based and she doesn't want to risk those she contacts.

MiL passed away in Birmingham hospital ten days ago. Still in their mortuary because of delays getting the Death Certificate from the Birmingham Registrar. I think they still work from home yet you now have to attend the Registrar’s Office in person!
The NI additional contribution U turn is a poor excuse imo.
The real problem is the criminal mismanagement and inexcusable wasteage of materials and resources.

I'm not trying to defend the the appointment of a Diversity Manager, but I suspect the need for such a post is the result of government requirements to prove that an organisation does maintain sufficient ethnic, gender etc diversity to comply with employment legislation. There must be plenty of other specialisms within the NHS that could receive the same scruitny.
However the other point your post raises is the apparent management heavy make up of the NHS, and the high cost of such a system.
I really think this hints at a gross oversimplification of the realities of trying to run a multifaceted highly complex organisation like the NHS which a vast undertaking, and one that is constantly under reformation due to both Government initiatives, and an increasing number of of increasingly more complex and costly medical treatments. The general public only understand a small fraction of the running of a health care system, It's not like a Caravan Dealership where the primary object is to make a profit.
I venture to suggest that with the size and complexities of the organisation, it is essential for the NHS to employ appropriate experts to monitor the organisation's performance, and to offer advice to the board on possible threats and opportunities. These need to be high calibre appointees, and to attract the right calibre of candidates from other employment, you need to offer commercial grade salaries.
Otherwise you might find the NHS was populated by some entirely unsuitable people not used to dealing with such large budgets, and having the right motivation.

There are 219 NHS Trusts, all totally autonomous . I worked with many multinational firms with many plants throughout the U.K. Their culture was to centralise a number of tasks eg labour and materials procurement .
At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what you and I think . What does matter to me , my family and friends is when ill we want top class doctors and nurses to tend us ,not dare I say a Diversity or other non medico person.

Must say whenever I see NHS on tv or go into a health establishment it strikes me as a very diverse organisation in terms of gender, and ethnicity. But of course that’s a simplistic view as I wouldn’t be able to render a monthly report and the multiplicity of statistics required by trust hq and NHS central.
WRT to managing my friend who was transferred to Barts last Saturday evening had a successful heart bypass and valve replacement despite testing covid positive. But the knock on effect on that hospital is that he’s still in a single ICU room with 1:1 care. He should have only been their for around 24 hours IE Tuesday before being moved to HDU. But covid prevents transfer to HDU as that unit is multi bed. . So Barts have had to manage their planned and emergency treatments around one ICU not being available from Tuesday evening, and the additional burden on the need to provide 1:1 care in ICU.
This is just a microcosm of what’s happening across the NHS, and it predates Covid which has only exacerbated the situation.

Mrs B has been in hospital for just over 2 weeks and the care she has received once past A&E has been second to none and we are very grateful to the NHS staff. 👍 👍
I totally agree we would all like top class treatments for our medical conditions, but we all know there is postcode lottery which means there isn't equal access to all forms or treatments' in all parts of the country. That is the result of the exponential growth of the NHS's responsibilities and the range, complexity and costs of treatments, which has ultimately led to our present position with each Hospital trust having to control all its procurement, and staffing at a very local level. This means there is massive duplication of roles across the nations.
Having had Covid in late July we don’t plan to have our covid boosters until much later in the year. Will then see us well into spring 2023 if a further boost is required.
After having positive experience I will be continuing to follow the advise given to me. My next vaccination is next week and will be my third one, glad to say for us and being sensible with ourselves we have been lucky with the outcome so far.......

Looking at your message you must be glad that the monitoring is so close, I have no complaints about the number of injections I have received. Keeping a close eye on Government guidelines and doing what is advised we have been lucky. My wife was a health professional for forty years, caring for me throughout most of this time. It is a combination, of all these parts which has enabled me to continue not the number of injections I've had, pleased they are monitoring you so closely and you are in good health.
Just booked our 4 th. Plus the annual flu jab. Hopefully ,next year, they will do both together and save money

Thought they were doing them both together this year? If not I’ll get my flu jab booked.
First 3 jabs (Astra zeneca x2, Pfizer x1) I was absolutely fine, like I hadn’t them. Jab 4 ( Pfizer) poleaxed! Weird. Hope jab 5 is kind. Still worth it though. When I had Covid in April, it was really mild.
