Jet garage Grove has diesel at 164.9/litre......from this thread the price of diesel seems to vary by as much as 20p/litre with no obvious rhyme or reason!!!

The CMA has identified that supermarkets raise prices quickly and reduce prices slowly and is planning to investigate further - co-incidentaly (or not) Asda have reduced prices by 4.5 p/litre in the last couple of days.

But as reported on this thread and in the media it’s very unusual for supermarkets own brand fuel to be priced higher than independents, which is the case in some areas.

That's possibly what triggered the CMA investigation - of course now that Asda is owned by the Issa brothers who also own EG Group, which operates many filling stations and service areas, the differentiation between supermarkets and "independents" has all but gone.

Not so much here as the EG own the three Esso independents, but I don’t expect stability to return any time soon until their is a resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

The Ukraine issue is causing the higher prices - but not the price instability, that seems to be caused by lack of competition, caused in turn by EG Group/Asda's non-competitive pricing - it's good to see them competing again.

My wife has filled up at Sainsbury’s Chippenham which is now 10 pence per litre more expensive than Sainsbury at nearby Melksham. I wonder if the reason could be location. Chippenham is on a major junction A4/A350 fir through traffic whereas Melksham Sainsbury is a similar size but located in the town out of the way. Either way they are having a larf.
Still cheaper where you are then where i live

Jet garage Grove now has diesel at 159.9/ litre......still see a large variation of price as I travel around.
Lots are clearly coining it!

Travelling up the M1, there is a cheap garage just off junction 9 at Redbourn, 1/2 mile towards Dunstable, Diesel at £1.79 a litre.

Many places have dropped below that price now that Asda is competing on price again - after the CMA's announcement it would examine supermarket fuel pricing.

I am just looking at a list of Sainsbury filling stations around the country. I could understand a slight regional variation, but a 53 pence difference sounds more like opportunistic profiteering. I paid on the London/Surrey border this afternoon £1.859 per litre, yet other branches can sell it at £133.

i am pleased price is dropping on fuel i have just receive a email my new car should be going into production early January and if everything goes to plan i might see it in March 2023

.....regional variation maybe but garages 5 miles apart as seen yesterday in Oxfordshire!!
One has diesel at 181.9/litre the other 159.9/litre.
That's 22p/ litre difference or £11 on a 50 litre fill.
Both were full of paying customers!

How do you know they were paying customers as some could have been company cars? LOL! 😀

Just passed a Jet station on way back from hospital
Diesel was 173.9 /litre
Petrol 149.9 / litre
That is 23p difference in North Lincs

I just thought that if anyone was travelling up or down the M1 this cheap fuel station is a 15 minute detour

Sunday Trago Mills shopping centre just of the A38 at £1.65.9 ,Shell fuel
went to get my annual bag of Maris Piper's for Christmas, only 3 in queue
so joined in, normally at least 30 cars queuing so dont bother then.

Varies wildly here but we can knock about 4p off your figures at some places. It helps to have at least seven retailers within two miles of the house and several more within three miles.

The prices of fuel in Cumbria varies i have passed a Shell petrol station Diesel 166.7 then yesterday up past Penrith it was 171.9
