Does yours hang low?

I tow a 2007 Swift Accord that has the jockey wheel located inside the "A" frame. Even tho' I tow with a Hyundai Santa Fe I find on a very bumpy road the jockey wheel hits the ground.

On my previous caravan, the jockey wheel was fixed to the outside of the "A" frame, and could therefore be raised further off the ground. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I have istalled a quick release bolt so that I can remove the wheel before towing, but that is a bit of a chore. Any solutions?

I have found that on my bustner,if the wheel is facing foward of its attached bar towards the towing vehicle it will ground of occassion.

IOf it faces the caravan instead it seem to raise itself slightly higher and i have no trouble.

Maybe your jockey wheel leads itself to giving better clearence one way rather than the another......

I have the same set up as Giovanni, on my Lunar the Jockey Wheel will sit up higher into the A frame when the wheel is facing the caravan,

As with Martin, when we raise the jockey wheel facing the caravan it sits well inside the Aframe and havent had any problems of it grounding.

and noticed that if I turn the jockey wheel towards the van

It rises up a lot higher

Thanks for the input, but I do face the jockey wheel to the rear, I spoke to someone on a site last weekend, and he was towing a new van with a Rav 4 and he had the same problem.

hi kelvin, which model and year is your santa fe. we have a 57 plate santa fe cdx7 2.2 auto and tow a 2008 sterling elite onyx fully loaded 1600kg. we dont have that trouble at all.

my in laws have the older santa fe 02 reg and they tow a swift 2 berth fully loaded approx 1400kg they dont have a problem either.

cant understand it.

ill ask my OH which way he puts the wheel as i dont hook it up etc.

i have to be careful what i put in the locker because on mine the max towball weight is only 80kg and we are a stickler for getting the towball and nose weight correct and we like to tow at about 85%.

Hi, we tow an Abbey with a 07 Santa Fe and had this same problem. The tow hitch plate had 2 levels so I took off the bolts and raised it (just over an inch). This has definately helped.

Had the same problem. I changed the wheel for the smallest dia" I could find this give me those few extra inches clearance.

I've replaced the split pin on the wheel spindle with an R clip so that I can remove the wheel when going on ferries etc or when it gets stuck under the A frame when hitching up

Bring back the side clamps!1

Thanks for all replies, it isn't just me then.

I tow with an '08 Santa Fe limited, wheel facing to the rear, nose weight OK, and tow ball on the highest setting.

I recently sold a Saab 9-5 and that was a real problem with the new van. Perhaps manufacterers need to take a look.
